Diamond Moore is a 20 year old African American who was referred by her instructor for anorexic tendencies. She is a full-time student studying dance and a full-time worker to make ends meet. She reports feelings of being overwhelmed and is 5’6 only weighing at 90lbs. She insist that her body weight is normal and that she looks good “anyone who thinks differently is jealous.” She has a diet that only consist of low carbs, mainly salads and has thought about throwing it up after but hasn’t “yet.” Diamond also stated she doesn’t have time for friends and her parents are often criticizing her body shape. She fears gaining weight because she wouldn’t be able to dance if she were “too big.” Before her decrease in weight her boyfriend broke up with her and days later she saw him with someone “a lot more petite.”

Furthermore, Diamond reports when she was younger, her parents would often make comments suggesting they think overweight people are disgusting. As she became older at the age of 15, she declared she wanted a career in dance. Her parents would only allow her to eat certain things and wouldn’t let her hang out with friends because she could be practicing. She expressed feelings of depression and exhaustion and stated she was not able to sleep. Her career is important to her and when approached by her instructor who noticed her weight loss, she realized she may need help more appropriately balancing her life.
