Template to help you with your paper in HCM 1143

NOTE* This template is NOT mandatory. You can use any format you like. This is a tool for those unfamiliar or uncomfortable with writing research papers.

  • Double space, times new roman font, standard margins.

  • Number pages, paper title and your name on every page after page one

  • Cover page with course name, paper title, your name, instructor name, college name and date

  • DO NOT use personal pronouns (I, we, they, etc.)

  • If you did not come up with the idea yourself, CITE IT. More than 4-5 words of someone else’s words is plagiarism without a citation.

  • Put direct quotes in quotation marks

  • DO NOT just summarize the movie, or base the paper on your personal opinions

  • ITALICIZE movie titles and include in the bibliography

  • Papers must have a clear thesis

  • Best tip is to watch the movie more than once so you can look for impact of administrator and not the storyline

  • Use the instructions and rubric like a checklist to make certain you have it all done.

Section 1 (1 or more paragraphs) INTRODUCTION

Talk about the movie here. This is the most summary you are likely to write. THE END SENTENCE OF THIS PARAGRAPH(S) IS YOUR THESIS.

Your thesis is a sentence that sums up the point of your entire paper. It is specific to what you are proving. EVERYTHING in your paper should help prove your thesis OR you need a new thesis or different facts.

EXAMPLE: Although Healthcare Administrators must abide by policies to protect the profitability of a business, poor consumer relations have a much higher price than an uncollectable bill.

Section 2+ (3 or more paragraphs) This section is repeated over and over until you are ready to conclude.

Here is where it gets tricky. Do you have only one point that you will explain in great depth? Or multiple reasons your thesis is true? This is where research comes in. Your points are NOT proven by the movie, they must be proven with research.

EXAMPLE: (this is fictional) Greenlaw said that the entire healthcare industry depends on a steady stream of new consumers with ability to pay to make up for the dredges of unpaid medical bills past and present (Greenlaw, 12). However, the public perception of the Healthcare entity has an overwhelming correlation to the new consumers willing to trust it with their business dollars.

  • Use Signposts every time you change ideas like “The (first, second, next, last) reason ____ is important to an administrator…..”

Section Last CONCLUSION

This is the easiest part. NO NEW INFORMATION SHOULD BE IN THE CONCLUSION. You simply summarize your paper and restate your thesis. For clarity sake, it is always nice to start with “In conclusion, …….”
