Many issues affect Americans every day. These issues transcend stratification, social class, race and gender, along with political and economic concerns.

 Each of these statistics represents various components of our society with far reaching implications involving each other. All these statistics come from either the U.S. Census, U.S. Labor Board, California Vital Statistics, Centers for Disease Control, or the California Employment Development Department.

  • 82% of the estimated 328,698,878 million people in America (2019) make $55,322. A year or less. In 2016 our population was 318 million.

  • In 2019, 85 Million Americans or 26% of the population are using some form of Government Aid. That represents 9.2% adults and 16.7% children. In 2016, 43 Million Americans are using some form of Food Stamps, down from 2010 statistics of 44 Million. 49% of the total population receives some government benefit, with 44% of children living in low-income families. 1 in 5 children are feed with Food Stamps. With 21.3% of Americans on welfare, that equates to over 70 Million people.

These figures have risen by at least 5% as a conservative amount each year.

In Butte Co: $797.00.  In 2018 10% of the population feared they could lose their homes to foreclosure. In 2016 1 in every 2149 homes is in foreclosure. That is over 379,000 homes either in preforeclosure, auction or bank owned with another 479,000 homes in early foreclosure as of February 2018. The median sale price is $230,000. In previous years, there have been over One Million homes in foreclosure per year, with a median sale price between $126.000 and $172,000.

 

  • 2018 official numbers for the U.S were 3.9%, with 7.6% to include marginal, unemployed, seasonal and part-time workers. 2019 Feb. Chico 6.1%. Before Camp Fire. 2018 5.3%.  March 2019 Butte Co: 6.1%, Chico: 4.5%, Colusa Co: 20.5%, Glenn Co: 8.1%, Tehama Co: 6.9%. Compare this to the 2017 numbers. The national unemployment rate was listed as 4.1% with 7.5 million Americans not working, as of March 2017.  However, California lists their unemployment rate as 4.3%. More specifically, Butte Co. 6.6%, Colusa Co. 21.8%, Glenn Co. 8.9%, Tehama Co. 7.1%. These numbers are supposed to be adjusted for seasonal employment and do not include the elderly, children, transitional workers, retired or semi-retired or part-time workers. Total (US) unemployment was 124,085,947 or 38% of the population. 2019, 24,981,114 additional unemployed people.

 

 

 

  • In 2019, approximately 1.1 million Americans in the U.S. are living with HIV. About 15% of (1 in7) re unaware they are inflected. Every year there are about 38,000 new cases reported, with the majority of them (52%) in the South. Every 9 1/2 minutes someone in the U.S. is infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. 1 in 8 people were living unaware of them being infected with HIV in 2017. That is over 1.2 million Americans, with 1 in 5 new HIV infections occurring in youth 13-24. In just 2015 there were 44,073 new cases involving youth and adults. In 2016 18,160 new cases of HIV were diagnosed with another 39,782 diagnosed with AIDS; that is 57,942 diagnoses in one year, 2016. There are 20.9 million living with Antiviral therapy in the United States, with another 36.7 million worldwide with AIDS. There still is no cure for AIDS, it is 100% terminal for these people.

 

 

 

  • 1 in 3 Americans have $0 saved for Retirement.

About 75% of Americans over 40 are behind on saving for Retirement.

28% of over 55 have no retirement savings.

42% of Millennials have not begun to save for Retirement.

More than ½ of Gen Xers have less than $10K saved for retirement.

Women are less prepared than men with 38% reporting no savings or less than $10,000.  

 

  • Obesity in the United States has hit alarming rates. Overall rate is 34.9% (over 78.6 million) of the total population. 2/3 of Adults are overweight or obese. 1 in 20 or 69% are extremely obese, with 3 in 4 males or 74% overweight or obese. 

For children: from 2011 to 2014 children 2-19 years, 17% were affected with 12.7 million children and adolescents listed as overweight or obese.
