Assume you are the first officer at the scene of an aggravated robbery at a convenience store.   The store clerk states she was held a gunpoint while the robber jumped over the counter and took the money from the drawer.  The clerk has an injury to her arm she said happened when the robber jumped over the counter.  A witness is standing nearby who states he saw the robber run out the door, jump in a car, and speed away.  Answer any one or more of the following questions picturing the convenience store as one with which you are familiar: (1) What are some steps you would take during the next 5 minutes as you wait for backup to arrive?  (2) What mistakes or errors would you think could possibly be committed during the 5 minutes before and 10 minutes after backup arrives?  (3) What could be the most serious mistakes that could be made by first officers on this scene?  Post your answers on the Discussion Board.

You will not earn points by restating or summarizing another student's answers.  Your comment must be original (this means different from student postings before you) and must cite and/or quote material from the assigned chapters for the respective module.   After posting a comment, you should respond to some comments of others which will help you earn points.   Evaluation of points earned on all discussion items will be determined by the totality of your postings and will be determined after the discussion board closes, so points may be earned by responding more than once on the discussion board.

Answer either #(1) or #(2) below, but if more than 10 students have answered either alternative before you, you must choose the other alternative to earn any points on this one.  Be sure to list the number you have chosen to discuss to help other students after you to determine which alternatives have been discussed.

#(1)  Briefly discuss any aspect of each of the following three conditions:  rigor mortis, livor mortis, and algor mortis; and briefly explain how the conditions can help determine time of death; or

#(2)  Name a type of physical evidence and explain whether the evidence possesses individual or class evidence and explain why you would need or not need a standard/reference if the evidence were collected at a murder scene.
