Spring Term 2020 Final Exam

  1. Answer four (4) of the following six essay questions. Be sure to respond to the question posed and use relevant facts and examples from the reading assignments and class lectures. (20 points each).

  1. Discuss the T-4 Program and the other aspects of Nazi Eugenics from the early days of the Nazi regime through the concentration camp experimentation on camp inmates.

  1. Discuss the theological implications of the Holocaust experience as set forth in Eli Wiesel’s memoir, Night. How did Wiesel react to the horrors of Auschwitz in view of his previous religious education and observance?

  1. How did the gypsy (Roma) population suffer during the Nazi terror? What were the prevailing attitudes towards gypsies prior to the Holocaust? And how were the gypsies treated in the concentration camps as opposed to the Jews, for example?

  1. How did Nazi sympathizers in occupied countries aid and abet the Germans in the annihilation of their Jewish citizens (ie Rumania, Hungary, Poland and the Ukraine)?

  1. In what ways and under what circumstances did Chiune Sugihara help Jews who were trapped in Lithuania? What was Sugihara’s fate after the Second World War ended?

  1. How did Primo Levi describe his incarceration in Auschwitz? How did his experiences differ from Wiesel? Consider their different backgrounds before ending up in Auschwitz.
