INTRODUCTION

  1. “Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum!” says Captain Jack Sparrow of the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean”. If you recall this movie, the Caribbean is a beautiful family of islands, with St. Lucia being one of them. Imagine lush green mountains behind a white sandy beach while overlooking bright, clear turquoise water. This is just a glimpse of what the Caribbean islands look like, including the gorgeous St. Lucia.

  2. There are fun activities to do while visiting St. Lucia.

  3. St. Lucia is quickly becoming THE international hot-spot by hosting many adventurous and entertaining festivals, according to Travel Magazine 2006.

  4. Today, we will venture into the top beaches of St. Lucia, the annual Food and Rum Festival, and the annual St. Lucia Jazz Festival.

  1. Each of the top beaches at St. Lucia is spread all over the island with each beach offering different activities.

      2. Adventurous spot for snorkeling and scuba divers due to 1,800 ft drop-off at the base of the Pitons.

    2. Grande Anse Beach currently has commercial property for sale and development.

      1. Leatherback turtle watching site – nesting ground

      2. Archeological sites dating back to the period of the Amerindian

  1. The Annual Food & Rum Festival is a fun festival held around early November, this year it will be October 30 – November 2.

    1. The Festival wants participates to learn about the diversity of Carribbean food and drink.

    2. The Festival consists of many events to occupy the participants.

      1. World-renowned chefs - food

  1. Cooking demos

  2. Dinners featuring chefs menus

      1. Live music (Saturday and Sunday nights)

      2. Information – rum

  3. Cruises to distilleries

  1. The Annual St. Lucia Jazz Festival is held during the month of May, this year May 2nd-11th.

    1. It has become the leading event in St. Lucia and the most popular event in the region.

    2. This Festival has been given much recognition and ranked highly among other festivals

      1. According to George Wein on stluciajazz.org, the producer of over 30 festivals worldwide, ranked the St. Lucia Jazz Festival among the top 3 festivals in the world.

      2. In 1998, Grover Washington Jr., Motown recording artist, placed the St. Lucia Jazz Festival among the best he has ever attended.

    3. The Jazz Festival also consists of different types of jazz music.

    4. World-known artists as well as new and upcoming artists perform here. (such as)

CONCLUSION

  1. As you can see, there are many beautiful beaches to visit and fun activities, such as the Food/Rum and Jazz Festivals, to attend in St. Lucia.

  2. If you can imagine yourself sitting on a white sandy beach in front of a stage filled with music and food, and holding a fruity concoction with rum, then maybe you should consider St. Lucia as a dream vacation spot like I have.
