Self-Reflection Paper

As a previous student of yours last quarter, I knew that I wanted to continue taking more courses that you taught because I have enjoyed your lectures and teaching style. This course has been a very informative class and I consider most of the topics that we covered throughout this course to be very useful information. The information that we talked about are things that I can use at my current job and during my future career ventures. However, there are a few topics that I think are particularly relevant to me.

The first concept that I found useful was the topic of how to present using a PowerPoint. Before taking this course one of the biggest fears that I had were individual presentations. One of the things that I have implemented to help battle this fear, is to turn that fear into excitement and enthusiasm. During this current quarter I have had five different presentations and I used this technique to deliver my presentations successfully. Presenting in a way that reads off as excited gives me confidence, and it seems to get the attention of the audience as well as making the audience interested in the topics being presented. In class we also heard a group of students present each meeting which was a nice opening to class. I particularly enjoyed how you could notice how presenters improved every week. It seemed like they took all of the constructive criticism from previous presentations and implemented those tips into their own presentations.

Another topic that stood out to me was when we went through the correct way to write a resume. Previously, I would use a standard resume that I would send to all of the companies that I applied to. However, after learning that I should customize each resume for each job, I started to include specific information about the job requirements. I did this technique with a job opportunity that I applied to last month. I was lucky enough to get a face-to-face interview. During the interview he reviewed my resume and commented on how everything that they were looking for was listed in my resume. It was great to hear that the little extra work that I did to customize my resume to that specific job actually paid off. Before the interview I also practiced what, I was going to say if I was asked situational interview questions. During class we had a role play activity where we partnered up in a mock interview setting and asked each other these types of questions. This practice in class really prepared me for my actual interview. Having stories in my mind to tell during the interview was useful and took some of the stress away.

Overall, management 350 has been a valuable class to me. I used many of the things that we talked about in class in the real world . I know that throughout my career I will use this information that we learned to help me gain an advantage and hopefully stand out from the rest. Thank you professor Habich for preparing me very well for my future endeavors.
