Importance of disaster recovery

Many businesses do not often think that they will end up becoming  victims of natural disasters ,and only realize this when the devastating events have occurred  ,which requires spending of so much funds .This could  all have been avoided if a disaster recovery plan was in play. Disaster recovery restores as well as access data of a company in the event of the natural disasters occurrences which can be manmade, technological or natural (Stanton, 2015). Seeing that a company in the current digital and competitive landscape cannot afford not be operational for even a second, disaster recovery plan becomes vital.

One of the advantages of having disaster recovery is that it helps the company to smoothly and efficiently recover from the onset attacks. This is since the document contains, the likely scenarios that the business will face, and remedies are outlined. (Stanton, 2015) Further, the disaster recovery puts all the staff members on board meaning that all of them know what is expected of them when the disaster strikes. This will allow for coordinated smooth undertaking which restores the daily operations.

Further, disaster recovery helps to avoid expenses incurred as a result of the company experiencing downtime. For instance, its estimate that in just an hour of downtime, large enterprises lose about 700,000 dollars, mid-size firms lose 74,000 dollars and small firms lose 8,000 dollars (Stanton, 2015). All of these expenses will end up reducing the profitability of the businesses which wouldn’t be the case when the disaster recovery is in place. Lastly, disaster recovery helps to maintain and increase the customer base of the company. This is since customers are attracted to companies which are able to experience minimal to no downtimes and when when they come they are recovered with the minimum time possible as opposed to a firm which doesn’t have a disaster recover.
