Introduction

Israel and Palestine are ale counties in the Middle East bordering each other. Israel is a Jewish state while Palestine is an Arab state. These two countries have conflicts that led them to fight. This conflict is therefore regarded as The Israeli – Palestinian conflict. The main cause of the fight was over who gets the land and how it will be controlled. However, the current conflict begun in the early 20th century has been due to political conflict. In general, these conflicts have negatively impacted the lives of people either politically or sociologically. The conflict has also tremendously impacted the foreign politics of other countries.

Therefore the disagreements between Israel and Palestine are largely covered by the media. This paper is going to focus on the media coverage of the Israeli – Palestinian conflict and how it represents sociological, political, and criminological theories upon individuals and as a society or collective impacts. Media coverage on this conflict has led to protests all around the world as it is regarded as a biased exercise. This coverage is considered of importance to Israel due to its wealth. The rich be richer (Wolsfeld, 1997). On the other hand, it has spread hatred, intolerance, and ignorance of Palestine due to their poor conditions (Gabi, 2013).

Sociological Reflection

Israeli – Palestinian conflict has sparked emotion from different religious and social groups. This has led to increased media coverage capitalizing on people’s emotions. Human rights have also been affected negatively. Therefore in line with to postmodern view to conflict, conflicts are due to material or structural factors like inadequate resources (Moscovici, 2001). Some of the representations are mythically and narratively cooked and constructed.

In Palestine, houses were enough to provide housing constitutes as this is one of the basic requirements for satisfactory living in any society. Unfortunately due to the conflict that sparked the war, buildings were brought down drastically creating a limitation and shortage in housing provision. This led to people struggle with high rent rates. In contrast, housing facilities in Israel, especially those in Arab Jerusalem are of modern complexity paved with good roads and open spaces. Infrastructures in Israel are developed as compared to Palestine. This can be evidenced by street cleaning, garbage collection, and public lighting. Therefore the standards of living in Israel are much better compared to those of people in Palestine.

Palestine people who lived in West Gaza were predominantly farmers. Basic elements like land and water were not a big deal to them. This area was fertile and productive. Israeli – Palestinian conflict brought these resources under full Israel control. This triggered to lack of food in Palestine.

Apartheid, home demolitions, arbitrary detention, and killings are still questions being asked by the Palestinian due to this conflict as they feel that their rights are being abused. However, they are less regarded by the media coverage due they are financial in capabilities and instabilities. On the other hand, media coverage has helped Israel gain and get support from the United States. The media coverage always focuses on Palestinian reactions as they are always considered to be on the offense. Some reasons why media in the United States focusses on Israel on Palestine may be that Israel is a holy place having three major religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Many people belonging to these religions pay attention to Israel as they are connected religiously. When this conflict is in news, people may become emotionally defending Israel. Based on this, the religious importance of Israel plays a big role in media coverage ignoring Palestinians who are mainly Arab Muslims. When this news is spread American companies aid Israel. (Jenn, 2016)

Political Reflection

These two countries have political differences. Israel remains to more powerful and dangerous when it comes to a war that Palestinians. The current Israeli – Palestinian conflict remains to be the most widely reported conflict. It is acknowledged that the media coverage platforms to give people what they want. Unfortunately, in Israeli – Palestinian it is the contrary. Here, people who have seen rioting on the streets demanding the rights are regarded as offenders. Due to political advantage, the media spread the wrong information. Israel has adopted a policy of press management. Accordingly, media is being controlled by the Israeli government on matters involving this conflict. (Liebenberg, 2012)

In fighting several tactics were used. We had many negative outcomes such as emboldening Islamist radicals and some politics erupted among neighboring countries. This has been majorly attributed by President Trump about the movement of the embassy to Jerusalem. But also due to the great devastation in the Middle East and overshadowing the peace process. Israel is in control of the border, land, sea, and sky thus leaving the Palestinian hopeless and confused. The Israel army still raids Palestine’s homes at night. With kind of ruling many men and women have been jailed while many children have been hospitalized. This is democracy. This is the whole debate on the two states as it has been sidelined by the media as it is a marginalized Palestine’s questions.

Criminological Reflection

Is comparative criminal justice good? This depends on one’s aim or desire. Everyone has his or her aims and goals to be achieved, either through classification, explanation, or interpretation. (Nelken, 2010). Israel – Palestinian conflict led to several criminal justice. The Palestinians were being offended for doing the right things. Palestine is not among the member states in ICC. However, the ICC has the potential authority to investigate these crimes. These crimes include the abuse of human rights (humanity) and territory confirmation. The crimes have negatively impacted the lives of people and society leading to protests and violations.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, the Israeli – Palestinian conflict has negatively impacted the lives of people individually and collectively. The media poorly represented this conflict socially, politically, and criminally. One state is favored due to its religious background. Therefore the states with the media must work together and collectively to curb the conflict through various peacemaking efforts and the language or the differences should be interpreted broadly.
