Cloud Computing for Cost Reduction and Green Computing

Cloud Computing provides on-demand computing services for applications and storage over the internet. It is an emerging technology being used by most organizations across the globe due to its numerous benefits, such as cost reduction and ease to use. Cloud computing also needs to be environmentally friendly, as the concept of green computing has been considered to a requirement in the organizational space of today’s world.

Researchers have made numerous efforts to make cloud computing more energy-efficient to minimize carbon print in the IT industry (Verma & Wadhwa, 2014). The studies from the research show that cloud computing is cost-efficient and eco-friendly for businesses that want to save on IT costs. As many believe this phenomenon, they are correct to believe so as green cloud computing is widely getting more attention among enterprises across the world, with recent reports indicating greater carbon efficiency as well as the reduction in costs.

Cloud computing has been considered a way of saving money and energy for business. For businesses to realize profits, they must avoid spending on software and infrastructure resources and allow their customers to focus on making money rather than channeling all their focus on infrastructure concerns. Therefore, cloud computing will enable them to minimize energy consumption without spending money on running the servers. Furthermore, this shows that without servers running, which may need maintenance or repair, businesses are able to save on labor costs.

In recent years, companies have had tremendous pressure to comply with environmental regulations by developing products and services that reduce negative impacts on the environment. According to Radu (2017), the development of green cloud computing has also influenced the evolution of green data centers since they are the core of cloud computing. Necessarily, cloud computing benefits are more significant in maintaining an eco-friendly environment if the data centers are built on the green computing concept.
