Amazon became very successful from simply selling books from its founders garage. Very interest much of what is reported about Amazon is positive in the business world From the analysis no one perhaps not even Mr. Bezos, Amazon seem to be a Threat of Entry (Porter’s Five Forces, #1) to other business. Amazon is a one of the leading companies in merchandizing. By the year 1998 it was reported to have a third-party sales of 3% with about almost 20% increased by the year 2018 with 58%. The very high changes relates to Porter’s Five Forces #5, Availability of Substitutes.

 

Strengths:

  1. Products are available immediately

  2. Delivery can be from over-night, two day delivery and normal

  3. Members get some perks, such as discounts, free delivery and at times two-day free delivery

 

Weakness/ challenges:

  1. Prime offices are unwanted locations other than millennials

  2. Competitors such as Walmart & Target

 

Not much negative to speak about Amazon, it’s popular and continues to challenge larger business, however affecting small business. Negative publicity as hit Amazon and Politics, not generally accepted. For example the opening of an Amazon HQ in New York City. The public rejected the idea and for now Amazon was not welcome. Something to which Amazon lacks is the product satisfaction -vs- paying less. Over time I have learn to read the customer’s reviews as well of where the products are getting ship from. There are some companies that offer something very similar to a reputable company, for a lot less. Caution, customers might be getting what they pay for, and yet nothing to what it was expect (lesser price = lower quality product). Over all Amazon continues to lead the merchandizing industry and continues with develop new strategies and technology.
