The event that I will be handling in this article occurred between 1820 and 1860 where there was a famine called great hunger that forced the Irish people to migrate. There drought and famine at the time led to no production of potatoes which was among the catalysts of immigration of Irish to America. During the immigration, there were mainly two groups that comprised of the; unskilled who were mainly the catholic and the second group was the skilled people that got easier assimilation to the culture of Americans. This immigration changed how the future immigrants are currently being accepted in America. (Woodham-Smith, C. 1962)

My initial resource was the “diversion visa lottery” which was authored by Law Anna where the main details in this document was about the 1965 immigration act that was mainly about Irish people and how they contributed to this law. According to the article, we find out that every policy is related to the immigration of the Irish people but there is a difference with the second one since it informs us of immigration generally. The second resource is “writing an American immigration history” by Goek Sara. It is trying to inform American government on how it can restrict immigration where it used Irish people and other immigrants of the past as reference. The two articles are related since they are trying to inform us more about restricting of immigration and how what happened in the past has changed our today’s life. (Eagleton, T. 1995).

In conclusion I believe that with more research I am going to have better concept of this topic. My research question is going to be “How did the immigration of Irish people in America lead to the formation of the current immigration restrictions and the immigration act of 1965?”
