The authors of this article delineate the life and conviction of Angel Diaz, a Puerto Rican convict accused, and, later, wrongfully executed for the murder of a strip club manager. Not only was Diaz wrongfully executed, but it took an unusually long amount of time for him to pass. Negligence was found to play a part in the way the execution was conducted. Capital Punishment in the US. (2019). Capital Punishment in the US. Capital punishment in the United States. Retrieved from https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/facts-and-research/sentencing-data/death-sentences-in-the-united-states-from-1977-by-state-and-by-year

This site offers statistics directly from the Bureau of Justice Statistics about the death penalty by state and by year for the last ten years. It also provides sentencing rates and details on sentences by race, location, and year. I can utilize these statistics to further accentuate my point that death penalty is an unjust and inhumane form of justice. For example, looking at one of the statistics on the website, the US murder rate has stayed fairly consistent since 2000, despite the argument that the death deters acts of violence and other punishable by death crimes.

Some of the highlights discussed in this source is that over half of US states have abolished the death penalty in its entirety. Additionally, a poll found approximately 60 percent of Americans stated they are against the death penalty. I can use these statistics, among others in the document to support my argument that more and more people/states are determining the death penalty as an ineffective way to combat crime.

The authors of this article discuss the history of the death penalty and what methods were used. The death penalty dates back to BC. Some of the methods employed include crucifixion, drowning, beating to death, burning to death, and impalement. To most, these sound like terrible methods of execution. To support my argument, I intend to compare the methods and arguments for the death penalty when first utilized to now, to show similarities.

B. Reflection Questions

DIRECTIONS: Below your assignment, include answers to all of the following reflection questions.

  1. Accurately recording bibliographic information is essential and saves you time, as you can transfer this information to the References page of your drafted essay. Each source entry should include a brief summary of the source as well as 3-4 sentences describing how you intend to use that source to build or support your argument. Discuss how your annotated bibliography meets these criteria. (2-3 sentences)

I believe my annotated bibliography meets all the requirements because I have provided a detailed summary of each source and how I plan to utilize that source within my paper. I have carefully chosen specific items within each source that I think is most beneficial.

  1. Which strategies were most helpful for you when searching for credible sources? (2-3 sentences)

I found it helpful to read over the information contained in the source first before deciding to use it. In the past, I have glossed over a source and realized it didn’t contain what I needed so I would waste more time trying to find another credible source.

  1. What difficulties did you face while searching for credible sources? How did you overcome these difficulties? (2-3 sentences)

One of the difficulties I found was the amount of information on the topic. It was somewhat difficult to sort through all the information to find credible and relevant sources to support my claim.
