Hello everyone. My name is Junrong. My presentation topic is visual aids, and when to use each.

Over the years, people have used various visual aids to demonstrate ideas and concepts about their projects. Visual aids have been considered the best approach to present new ideas to the audience. In the past, people used overhead projectors, flip charts, and posters to display information, but these were replaced by computer technologies. There is extensive use of PowerPoint as the standard visual aid today. However, for an appropriate presentation, we should consider all other options such as objects, props, audio and handouts.

First, let me introduce the PowerPoints. PowerPoints are the commonly used visual aid today. The common PowerPoint which is used is Microsoft PowerPoint. There are few things we should be careful. PowerPoint should be prepared using big enough font (minimum of 20) (Madhuri, 2013). It will be evident to the audience. Also, A good PowerPoint should keep the background simply because it will not distract the viewer. Animations can be used with PowerPoint when appropriate, it should be made to make things visual. The most important purpose of PowerPoints are used when enhancing the oral presentation.

Next, we will talk about the effectiveness of using objects and props and when to use them during presentations. Have you ever seen speakers showing actual samples of products they are trying to sell during the performance? How many people have seen speakers carrying, for example, bicycle helmet when they are presenting about bicycle safety... Precisely that’s what we mean when we talk about objects and props. Taking the actual items is crucial because it makes it easier for the audience to understand the meaning of what one is talking about. An excellent presentation also involves the use of props. The speaker should use accessories when giving illustrations to make their audience connect with them on an emotional level. The speaker can decide to show the props at the front of the venue, pass it around during presentation, or put it at a strategic point where everyone can see them.

The third component of visual aid we are going to discuss is the audio and videos. During the presentation, a speaker may decide to use short clips of about 10 to 20 seconds to make emphasis on their topic. The video or audio to be used must have the topic content and relevance. When a speaker decided to use a clip, they must set to start playing exactly where the speaker wants it to start playing to avoid wasting time. It distracts the audience's attention when the speaker begins to fumble with technology during the speech. Besides, it is essential to test the file format, playability, and audio volume before the presentation.

Our final item is the use of paper handouts. Here, the speaker gives a copy of their PowerPoint slides to their participants before or after the presentation. In professional conferences, speakers may be required to submit copies of their presentation’s slides before the event. In such a scenario, copies must be prepared for all the attendees. Handouts are mainly used as a supplement to the content of the talk. Handouts are usually used in professional conferences or during lectures.

Thank everyone for listening to my presentation. If you have any questions, please ask me.

What do you do well?

I do not speak too fast, and I try to make myself clear to the audience. And what I said was very useful, which can improve the speaker when using visual aids for their presentation.

Improvable

I should improve myself in delivering in an interesting and pleasing way to attract the audience. And I can use with necessary body language. Nonverbal communication can convey subtle messages that reinforce consistency and credibility.
