The company’s social responsibility or community involvement. Discuss any initiative published on their company’s home page or on a linked page.

o    Briefly describe this company’s social responsibility plan.

Harley-Davidson’s success is partly built on the effectiveness of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies in addressing stakeholders’ needs and interests. As a result, these stakeholders provide adequate support to ensure the company’s resilience and competitiveness. Harley-Davidson’s CSR programs prioritize stakeholders’ groups as follows, arranged according to significance:

  1. Customers (top-priority stakeholders)

  2. Communities

  3. Environmentalists

  4. Suppliers

  5. Employees

The company’s corporate social responsibility programs are focused on ensuring that these stakeholders’ interests and expectations on quality, design, and craftsmanship are met, especially customers. “Here at Harley-Davidson we are increasing our positive social impact through creating positive change for our employees, customers, and communities. For example, Harley-Davidson uses its dealerships to obtain feedback from customers about their preferences and experiences. Such information is used in designing H-D motorcycles” (Harley, H-D. 2020).

Community

Communities are big stakeholders because they affect the company’s reputation and brand image. The company’s corporate social responsibility programs aim to support these interests about community development. For example, the Harley-Davidson Foundation works with charitable organizations for goals in improving education and health. In addition, the company’s Supplier Diversity policy supports minority-owned and female-owned suppliers (Harley, H-D. 2020).

Environmentalists

Environmentalist are significant stakeholders because they push businesses to contribute to environmental protection and conservation. The Harley-Davidson Foundation addresses some of these interests, by giving financial support to charitable organizations that have environmental conservation programs. As part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, Harley-Davidson also has a sustainability strategy where the company supports partnerships with organizations like The Nature Conservancy to support environmental conservation. In addition, Harley-Davidson has employed new technologies to certify optimal efficiency and minimize the environmental impact of its products (Harley, H-D. 2020).

Employees

Employees are also significant stakeholders because they influence Harley-Davidson’s output quality and capacity. Harley-Davidson’s corporate social responsibility strategy addresses their interest of fair treatment and career opportunities through employment policies and programs based on the company’s core values and expected behaviors. The Harley-Davidson Foundation also promotes employee involvement in outreach programs to improve employee morale (Harley, H-D. 2020).

o    Based on the information found through your research, provide your perspective on the following:

    • Have you or would you use this company’s products? Why or why not?

I would, and I have rode, driven, and wore H-D’s products. While I have not owned a H-D motorcycle because of how expensive they are, I do believe they produce high quality products. The company has over come so much and they continue to push boundaries using new technology to stay relevant but also consider customers request.

    • Would you like to work for this company? Why or why not?

I would not mind working for this company. Over the past few weeks, I have learned about H-D’s compensation packets, along with some of the perks they offer their employees and I think they would be adequate enough for me as well as my family. In addition, the company has a strong impression in most communities with opportunities to relocate if need be.

    • Do you believe this company will be successful in the future? Why or why not?

The biggest reason I believe H-D will succeed is because of its strong CSR programs and commitment to its stakeholders. Customers and environmentalist are big influencers when it comes to creating modern motorcycles using new technology while minimizing negative effects on the environment.
