Instructions

The specific requirements for this assignment are to write a 3–5 page paper in which you:

  1. Describe the product or service on which the company is focusing, including the company's name and its significance.

  2. Revise the company’s mission statement based on feedback received in the Week 1 discussion thread, including the rationale for each component of the mission statement.

    • Place the mission statement within quotation marks.

    • Use the Mission Statement Worksheet on pages 72–73 of your textbook as a guide.

  3. Describe the trends in your specific industry, focusing on your particular type of product or service.

    • Research and outline industry trends. Be sure to consider the size and growth rate for the overall industry and for the specific product or service on which you are focusing.

    • Search the Strayer Library, industry associations, and reliable websites for recent data.

  4. Select the strategic position from the course text (pages 146–147) that you believe is the best one for your chosen company and explain how you will implement it to distinguish your product or service from the competition.

    • Consult Chapter 9, "Strategic Position & Risk Assessment" of your text for help in crafting this portion of your business plan.

  5. Describe the company’s distribution channels and provide the rationale for your selection.

    • Sample questions to ask when choosing distribution channels:

      • Will you sell your product in grocery stores, restaurants, or sports venues?

      • Will you sell your product online or as a subscription?

      • Where will the service be offered?

  6. Revise your selected company’s SWOT matrix based on feedback from the Week 2 discussion thread and summarize the key learnings from your matrix.

International Fruit Salads is a company that offers a variety of mixed fruits, cream of milk, cheese and creams in decorative serving bowls made from fresh fruits directly from local farmers. Other products offered are take home fruit salads in sealable refrigeration safe containers. The intent behind the name is that fruits and healthy jellies made from natural fruits are optional and are “fun to create” by the consumer. Consumers can mix in a variety of fruits and flavors from mango, watermelon, kiwi, papaya, banana, cranberries, pineapple, apples, and peaches to create a frozen masterpiece of their choice.

International Fruit Salads is an inspirational healthy fruit snack company encouraging and supporting healthy lifestyles with delectable healthy creations created from local farm fresh fruits. Our mission is to improve diets by creating succulent salads that contain a multitude of healthy ingredients to include fresh fruits, graded Colombian cheese, flavored ice creams, and a delicious cream made of milk. By creating several choices of healthy fruit combination that are jam-packed full of nutrients it is an avenue of guaranteeing that your fun diet is balanced and nourishing. The intent is to use only local fruits from local farmers to give back to the community and support local growers. We view our company as a partner to our community, employees, and a product of our great environment. Our product is simply a concoction of local ingredients blended to make beautiful and colorful fruit creations. We strive to become a regionally known business, capitalizing on the interest of individuals and families choosing healthy dessert beverage options. Our goal is moderate growth, annual profitability while clinging onto our jazziness!

Our business is a healthy fruit snack company and with intent of full operations. We currently collaborate with various local farmers markets in the tristate area.

Strategic Position

EXAMPLE: Smoothie Surprise objective is to be the leading smoothie and frozen beverage company in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia (DMV) area. To achieve that goal, we have developed a strategic position that emphasizes:

  • Products made with locally grown ingredients

  • Individual, specialized options and selections


Distribution channels. Explain the manner in which your product will reach end users. Provide a rationale for your chosen method.

EXAMPLE: The distribution channel used by International Fruit Salad will be direct to consumers. The products are made directly in the store so there is nothing to ship or store anywhere.

Outline at least three (3) types of risks (including any regulatory risks) that your business faces. Describe your company’s plan to mitigate such risk.

EXAMPLE The three types of risk that our business faces are product, regulatory and competitive risk. The products that are at risk are that being supplied from the local farmers. Fruits and different berries and milk are all dependent upon the climate being stable and the bees being in a productive environment.


  1. Develop a SWOT analysis for your NAB company using the SWOT matrix worksheet in the course text (p. 153 | SWOT: Strengths / Weaknesses / Opportunities / Threats)
