I consider the rising cases of suicide among the youth are not considered as a threat and have not been taken seriously. My argument concerning suicide is drawn from the association of suicide cases with mental health that currently affect youths due to their rising increase of negative effects of using social media. The social media technology has come with both positives and negative impacts to today’s youth. My field of study is psychology and I intend to work as a psychiatrist. My key points that explains the challenges youth encounter when using social media platform are simple and it provide a detailed insight about them. The first challenge is that youth takes into considerations about opinions from their peers and also the general public especially through the social media when they share their pictures and body-shamed lowering their esteem. Cyber bullying mainly affects girls but boys also are not immune and the problem might result to depression and also suicidal thoughts (Hurley, 2020). The second challenge is peer pressure on issues of relationships and also living standards portrayed in the social media that pushes them to emulate and may not have the resources to do pushing them to depression and later suicide. My goal is to create a societal awareness about social media impacts to the youth’s mental health. I believe that my information might be reviewed because the information is likely to be legit and it may improve the impact from others.
