Personality and Leadership

Introduction

Personality Type: ISTJ

From the online personality test assessment, my personality type is ISTJ, which involves introversion, sensing, thinking, and judgment. The character of individuals with the ISTJ personality includes dependable managers, who follow and ensures order in their working environment, have methodologies for their doings, well-behaved, and strictly adhere to rules and regulations. Therefore, such personalities are significant contributors to success in their work environment. They are always involved in the activities, and, therefore, they always need to comprehend their various positions in an organization. Such personalities always meet the set goals and or objectives of the organization. This paper involves the analysis of my personality type, which is ISTJ, and how it can improve or hinder valuable leadership in the nursing field.

How my personality type, ISTJ, can ensure effective leadership

The ISTJ personality type can keep the knowledge from their preceding expertise and utilize the experience in solving new problems (Spain, 2019). Therefore, this particular character will ensure effective leadership because I can keep knowledge acquired from previous learning and experience and use the knowledge and expertise in problem-solving and overcoming various challenges (Adams, 2009). This particular trait will also assist me in identifying various circumstances at different times and using similar knowledge in solving the problem. This specific character will also help me train my subordinates by sharing knowledge and information from my past experiences and learning.

My capabilities include handling, organizing, defining, planning, implementing, and undertaking various tasks and ensuring completion according to the set timeline. Therefore, this specific ability depicts that I cannot allow any obstacles while performing assigned duties. Thus, this trait is critical in the nursing field because the nurse leaders must be active and practical, and, therefore, this trait is will ensure that I can concentrate on various projects. This trait will also help me establish the right plans and organize different responsibilities before beginning the execution. In the nursing field, it is necessary to organize various projects and procedures for effective implementations (Gobbi, 2017), which will ensure quality and improved outcomes, and, therefore, as a leader, it will assist me in achieving set goals and or objectives, which mainly involves quality and improved outcomes.

My ISTJ personality ensures opportunities for more significant responsibilities through performance evaluation and promotions (Spain, 2019). Therefore, this character is essential in providing effective leadership in the nursing field by delegating duties to subordinates. Thus, it will grant them opportunities for advancing and improving their knowledge and experience. It will also ensure compensations and promotions for my junior staff through performance evaluation; thus, this will foster my leadership in the nursing environment.

How my personality type, ISTJ, can hinder effective leadership

I have a strict adherence to rules and regulations, which may hinder effective leadership in the nursing environment. I may allow flexibility to change various rules and regulations that may be inapplicable, which may cause conflicts with the junior staff. Also, I wouldn't say I like sharing my emotions, which may also destruct people from approaching me for various queries and consultations; therefore, they may end up doing things incorrectly. The subordinate staff may not express their opinions because of my character.

I also have a character of resisting change with no proven benefits. This may also obstruct practical leadership in the nursing field because the nursing profession is vibrant, which may involve various changes (Gobbi, 2017). Changes may also be significant for the subordinate staff, and, therefore, resisting such changes will not ensure the professional growth of the subordinate staff. Thus, my character that involves resisting various changes in the nursing environment will hinder effective leadership.

The four aspects of personality

Introversion

My personality involves introversion; therefore, I require time and space (i.e., personal isolation). Thus, through inner thoughts and reflections, I can get motivations and inspirations. It also means that I cannot be destructed by other people, which will ensure that I am focused and independent in achieving set goals and or objectives.

Sensing

It depicts my full reliance on senses in obtaining information. I can also learn through effective listening and visual orientation. I love engaging with concrete facts and hand-on experience. I always do not agree with various facts that are not supported by actual experimental facts. I still consider data acquired from research as relevant.

Thinking

The decisions that I always make are based on analysis, logic, and reasoning. I utilize a longer time in decision-making because it is essential to classify rationale on every decision that I make.

Judge

I am strong-minded, articulated, organized, and meet expectations as well as set objectives. I also like arranging and planning various activities before execution. However, I wouldn't say I like changing multiple decisions that I made unless the changes are based on concrete facts.

Conclusion

It is essential to analyze personality types to assist individuals in improving leadership skills. Therefore, one can identify various characters that hinder effective leadership and improve such traits to ensure sufficient leadership. The ISTJ personality type has various strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, I will use such strengths in promoting effective and practical leadership in the nursing field and use work on improving the weaknesses.
