Effects of EI on leadership

Many leaders have been known to have a high emotional intelligence level. This is a requirement for leadership as the leaders get involved with many people. To ensure effective leadership, the leader must relate well with the people and understand their emotions. This is why high EI is required (Serrat, 2017). Healthcare centers, just like all other organizations require leaders for the management of activities. These leaders are chosen among the nurses and doctors. These leaders are responsible for both the sick people, fellow health providers, and families of the patients. Emotional intelligence, aides these nurses to keep track of their emotions and those of others before making a decision.

Effective leadership has is highly contributed by the personality of the leader who in turn influences those around him or her. Communication in healthcare is a necessity. This could be communication between a nurse and his patient, a nurse, and the family of the patient, or a nurse to other nurses and health providers (Serrat, 2017). Emotional intelligence contributes to how this communication is done. An example of when EI is required in communication is in the case of a nurse leader and a patient. The EI element helps him relate to patients feeling in administering care. That is, the nurse is in a position to identify when a patient is telling the truth about background health information, and when they are lying. alive for long. This will however mean that they will confide with a family member on the health and condition of the patient.

In some cases, the patients take offense if the nurses lie to them on their poor health conditions. For that reason, some nurses choose to tell the patients the truth and help them in preparing their future in the case that the conditions are incurable and death is imminent (Park et al, 2018). For serious situations that cannot be cured but there are ways of prolonging the life of the patient, discussing the true diagnosis is important. This will give the patient a chance to choose the action to be taken. It is also important as it relieves the patient of the fear of death.

EI is also important in transformational leadership. Nurses with high EI were seen to have three important aspects, which are idealized influence, individualized consideration, and inspirational motivation. Idealized influence in these nurse leaders encouraged the junior staff to come up with ideas that contributed to the mission and goals of the health center (Park et al, 2018). Inspirational motivation in leadership plays a role in encouraging the subordinate staff to keep offering their support and services. The duty of health care workers involves dealing with all ages of people and those with different emotions. Sometimes the health care providers face hostility from these patients. It is important for the nurses to be patient and to offer their services regardless of the bad attitude.

Individualized consideration is a character relevant to EI. It is concerned with how the nurses attend to their patients. Besides that, it relates to how the leaders treat the junior staff. Considering the emotions of junior staff in the allocation of duties and compensation results to good performance (Cleary et al, 2018). This means that the management looks at the workers individually. Situations that will affect the emotions of a health provider negatively may interfere with the results affecting the health of a patient. For instance, if a health provider is afraid of blood allocating them duties in the emergency department might have negative effects on the performance.

Emotional quotient is attributed to healthy working environments in many organizations. When we say that an environment is healthy we target the emotions of the workers. This is achieved by ensuring good relationships between the workers and the management (Cleary et al, 2018). The cases of bullying are done away with to give every health provider a chance to offer services comfortably. Additionally, a healthy environment encourages teamwork among the workers. This has an effect of good performance as workers exchange ideas between them. New developments are encouraged as all innovative minds are working together.

Results of the EI quiz

The results of the quiz were on 12/20. That means that 12 of the 20 questions were answered correctly. A fair understanding of the people’s emotions depicted in there was seen. The difficulty in differentiating different emotions resulted in that score. For example, sadness and embarrassment. The thin line existing between how people show sadness and embarrassment results in confusion. The emotion of flirting and love can easily be confused. Different people express similar emotions differently. An example is a pain. The expression people have on their faces to denote a certain emotion may differ from that of others.
