Module 6 Interview Tips

Here is some information on how to write up an interview.

This Personal Communication citation flows best when used at the end of a sentence as an end citation.

Use the Updated Template (No Abstract) as you would for all APA papers.

In addition, please refer to the APA manual:

Important Note: Personal interviews are not included in the reference list because they do not provide recoverable data. Cite them IN TEXT ONLY.

Personal Communication Includes letters, phone calls, email messages, and interviews. (p. 179 section 6.20)

General Format 

 

      In-Text Citation (Paraphrase) or (Quotation): 

      … the end of a sentence (Interviewee First Initial. Second Initial. Surname, personal communication, Month Day, Year).

 

      References:

      Do NOT include interviewee in the references!

  

Examples

 

In-Text Citation (Quotation):

      “I find my position as a nurse manager requires patience and transparency, but it is rewarding” (J. Brown, personal communication, April 27, 2010).

 

In-Text Citation (Paraphrase): 

      Jessica said that she found the role of a nurse manager to be challenging but rewarding (J. Brown, personal communication, April 27, 2010).

  

In-Text Citation (Paraphrase):

      J. Brown (personal communication, April 27, 2010) states that she finds her leadership role challenging but rewarding.
