Human-Computer Interaction is a discipline that focuses on the interaction between computer systems and humans. Several people have focused on developing a more user-friendly system in the past years. Computer Technology is gradually developing in terms of communicating with humans, which might lead to more efficient systems.

Ben Shneiderman was born in 1947 and one of the significant contributors to the development of the HCI. His profile and some of his career achievements have been listed on Wikipedia. He was born in America and served as a computer science professor at the University of Maryland Human-computer Interaction Lab. He is known since he developed several methods, ideas and tools that have been applied in the field. One of his greatest achievements was the development of a direct manipulation interface.

His innovation brought about a system that presents different objects to the user. The user then gets a chance to make changes to the presented object to come up with the preferred shape. (Shneiderman & Plaisant, 2010). An example is a situation where the computer presents a circular-shaped object. The user can move its edges to change its shape or size to come up with the most preferred object.
