I really enjoyed how Doris Quinn began her presentation with personal intel on Dr.Deming. Stating how she wrote a book on profound knowledge, how she got to travel with her to different countries before she passed and overall helping her gain the knowledge she used to advance her skills in the healthcare industry. As a public health major, the way she spoke about quality improvement, date diagram and database processes really stuck out to me. Along with the ways to improve leadership and promote positive change.

As Doc. Quinn went into detail on the flow charts, I really started to comprehend the complexity of this content. The intensity is high and even one small error can throw of the entire outcome. However, I still listen very closely due to me wanting to become some type of administrator in a possibly rehabilitation or clinical setting. I related to the speaker as she spoke about the clinical process and psychological safety. She brings up an inquiry where there is multiple providers on duty and the staff isn’t sure how they want to operate but they won’t state that in front of the patient or managers in facility. I fully understand that 100%. My senior year of my undergrad I did an internship at a clinic that had three different locations and the main providers would all rotate on different days of the week. This would cause us to change our work operations slightly to the providers convenience to assist the patients. I was happy to hear the speaker acknowledge this as this is something any staff under multiple providers will adhere to. Additionally, I thought the six aims of improvement were very vital and should be top value to all healthcare organization.

Overall, listening to Doris give her experience and background within the field was quite interesting. Healthcare is consistently changing and the different quality improvement programs, such as organizing a flow chart/diagram can really reinforce benefit to the healthcare organization long term. As she stared “Flow charts are made from the patient’s perspective”. Making these changes is a step-by-step process and not only will these core principles benefit the patients but it will also help run a smooth workflow for the organization.
