Chapter 5

1. Single Sign-On (SSO) is a mechanism through which the user accesses websites by the use of a single authentication step. If the user accesses a new page, the system verifies authentication through SSO (Dave, 2004). Suppose the user has completed the authentication, the user proceeds. Otherwise, the user has to complete sign-on.

2. SSO is provided through the SaaS-based identity and access management (IAM) feature called Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS). IDaaS is a cloud computing feature that allows organizations to authenticate user access in cloud platforms where multiple users of the same service exist. The aspects of IDaaS are IGA, Access monitoring, and Intelligence (Dave, 2004).

3. Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) utilizes a single set of login credentials to access different platforms and websites. SAML reduces the need for a user to maintain different sets of login credentials for each platform (Wisniewski et al., 2020). SAML provides a safe space for exchanging authorization requirements between the service provider and the identity provider.

4. Federated Identity Management (FIDM) is a federated arrangement through which users can utilize the same login credentials across different providers' services. FIDM involves an arrangement among various enterprises the user has subscribed. FIDM includes Identity Federation and Single Sign-On. Under FIDM, there could be multiple operating systems functioning on different servers.
