Welcome to the PowerPoint Basics tutorial. This is the title slide. You will introduce your presentation here. The larger font, seen here as “PowerPoint Basics” will be the title of the slide and the smaller font will be any subtitle you may need. 1 Use the design tab to find a subtle background. Use a font color that is easily read against the background color. Use the new slide feature on the home tab to insert a new slide. Choose the type of slide that is needed. The most common slides are the Title Content and the Two Content. They will automatically include the heading and the section for the bullets. 2 Be sure to use a heading that explains what is contained on the slide. Use the same font sizes throughout the presentation. If you use 48 pt. font for this heading, use it for all of the headings. The same goes for the bullet points. 3 The details of the presentation will appear in the notes section. This is where the narrative of the live presentation would be if you were going to present this to an audience. Think of a slide as something that should be aesthetically pleasing, informative to your reader, but also easy to read. The slide provides the vital basics that will inform your reader, and the notes provide all of the details that help elaborate on those basics. Place in -text citations in the notes if source information is used (Sample, 2016). 4 When you have information from one source, the in -text citation can go at the bottom right corner of the slide 5 When you have information from many sources, the citation will follow the information. All citations should have the author's last name and the source's year of publication. 6 If you use an image from a website, the citation should appear below the image.

Include a reference citation on the separate reference slide. 7 SmartArt Images can be used to show different types of information. SmartArt can be found on the Insert tab. There are various styles of graphics that display information in different ways. These images do not need to be referenced. 8 Identify each slide that needs audio. While on the slide that needs audio, select the Audio option from the Insert menu. From the Audio menu, select the type of audio being used. Audio on my PC would be used if you have sound clips already saved on the computer. Record Audio would be used to record new sound clips to be used in the PowerPoint (this is most likely what will be used and what the following instructions will demonstrate). Be sure that your microphone is plugged in and select Record Audio.

In the Name field, type the title of the recorded audio file. After you have entered the name, click on the red record button and say what you would like to record into the microphone. When you are done recording, click on the blue stop button. After clicking on the stop button, you will see a sound icon appear on your screen. The size and location of this icon can be changed by clicking on it. To listen to the audio, click on the sound icon and then the play arrow. 9 Click on the sound icon and then the Playback menu under Audio Tools. From the Editing menu, you can trim the length of the audio or make it fade in and out. To have the audio fade in or out, select the number of seconds you would like for it to do this from the Fade Duration section. To have the audio play automatically, select automatically under the start options on the Audio Options section. Otherwise, the audio will start when the icon is clicked. To have the audio play across all slides, play continuously until stopped, or rewind after it is played, check the box that corresponds to the option in the Audio Options section. To hide the sound icon during the slideshow, check the Hide During Show box in the Audio Options section. To have the music automatically play in the background of every slide, select Play in Background from the Audio Styles menu (Note: this option is best for music or sounds that are relevant to the entire presentation). 10 Include your references on a separate slide.
