Discuss key items that should be included in an SLA.

A service level agreement should include the goods and services to be delivered, the duties of each party, the metrics, protocols of removing metrics, and the remedies for breach.

Define predictive analytics and discuss how an IT manager might use such analytics.

Predictive analytics is defined as the used of machine learning and data to identify the likelihood of an event occurring in the future (Shmueli & Koppius, 2011). IT manager can harness the power of predictive analytics to identify the possibility of change in the field, as well as likelihood of threats.

Discuss how an IT manager might use load testing on a site.

IT manager should perform load tests on Information resources on a site to determine their performance on peak and load time (Younge et al, 2020). An example includes testing a website when demand is normal, and when there is a high level of traffic.

Define and discuss vendor lock-in and identify steps a company should take to mitigate this risk.

Vendor lock-in is defined as the situation where a company is stuck with one vendor because the cost of switching to another is very high (Younge et al, 2020). In cloud based solutions, a company should perform a thorough research on the plan they choose, establish an exit strategy, and build the data in a highly portable manner.

With respect to cloud-based solutions, list and discuss 5 to 10 operations or tasks an IT manager should oversee.

The role of an IT manager includes running tests such as load test to determine performance. They should develop IT policies for guiding employees about security needs. They should also report to the management on the performance and viability of the solutions. IT managers should also lead in designing training programs intended for capacity building and improving end user knowledge on IT security.

Chapter 13

List and describe common system requirements one should consider before moving an application to the cloud.

First one should consider network needs. Network needs is essential because some system demand a high bandwidth, which may make them a poor candidate for cloud based solutions (Younge et al, 2020). Secondly, scaling needs are important as a consideration because often applications should be readily scalable. The security needs are also important because publicly used cloud applications may expose the organization to security threats.

Discuss why a company should consider using a consultant to oversee a cloud migration and list specific skills you would expect the consultant to have.

Company based IT experts may not have sufficient skills for overseeing cloud migration. To reduce errors and uncertainty, an organization should hire a consultant who has experience in the dispensation. The consultant should possess the technical skills for planning, research, communication, and programming knowledge.

List and discuss resource utilization characteristics one should monitor for an application prior to moving the application to the cloud.

The characteristics that should be monitored include responsiveness, performance, and usage time (Younge et al, 2020). Performance issues may be caused by a number of factors, which need to be determined prior to the migration.

List possible training requirements for an SaaS solution integration, a PaaS application migration, and an IaaS application migration.

SaaS as a solution integration implies that the existing staff must be trained on the software that is employed by the organization (Younge et al, 2020). Training focuses on reducing outlays. Platform as a solution (PaaS) integration training is imperative to enable the existing workforce to cost-effectively manage workloads and perform tests. In Infrastructure as a solution ( IaaS), training requirement is needed on areas such as internet security.

List and describe budget considerations one should evaluate before moving an application to the cloud.

Before migrating to cloud solutions, one must evaluate the short term and long term cost of using the preferred service provider (Younge et al, 2020). Some are costly than others, but also effectiveness must be factored in the equation. The budget consideration should include the initial cost, the cost of maintenance, and the cost of upgrading as well as exit from the cloud solutions.

List and describe IT governance considerations one should evaluate before moving an application to the cloud.

IT governance is critical for enhancing the security of IT resources in an organization (Dzombeta et al, 2014). An organization should first consider the sensitivity of their data, and the potential threat if such data is stored in a public server. Secondly, the reliability and convenience of the cloud service provider, when there is a problem such as cyber-attack should factor in as an important consideration.

Define and describe cloud bursting.

It is deployment architecture that allows users to only use cloud based solutions when they are experiencing an increase in usage demands (Nair et al, 2010). It is defined as an arrangement that offers flexibility in the use of cloud based solutions when an organization continues to hold into their private servers.
