Using the quantitative study selected in Residency Project 2, you will continue to develop your trio details for your Information Security topic (Computer security and risk). For this assignment, you

To modify and/or improve your understanding of the quantitative methodology, many details exist that must be addressed. For example, in a quantitative study,

The flow down is the problem statement to the purpose. These must align. The research questions must align with the purpose. The variables must align with the research questions.

What are your independent and dependent variables? Do you have one of each or does your independent variable operationalize to more variables? Which of the following is correct for your quantitative study?

The proposed study will test (the theory) by relating (the independent variable) to the (dependent variable) for (participants) at (the research site).

Or

The proposed study will compare (group 1) with (group 2) in terms of (dependent variable) for (participants) at (the research site).

Relationship Questions: Format of the question is important!

How does (independent variable) relate to (dependent variable) for (participants) at (the research site)?

Or

To what extent, if any, does (independent variable) relate to (dependent variable) for (participants) at (the research site)?

Relationship Hypotheses

H0: There is no relationship between (independent variable) and (dependent variable).

Ha: There is a relationship between (independent variable) and (dependent variable).

Or

H10: (Independent variable) is not correlated to (dependent variable).

H1A: (Independent variable) is correlated to (dependent variable).

Comparison Questions: Format of the question is important!

How does (group 1) differ from (group 2) in terms of (dependent variable) for (participants) at (the research site)?

Or

To what extent, if any, does (group 1) differ from (group 2) based on (dependent variable) for (participants) at (the research site)?

Comparison Hypotheses

H0: There is no difference between (independent variable) and (dependent variable).

Ha: There is a difference between (independent variable) and (dependent variable).

Example with operationalization of research questions, hypotheses, and variables …

Research Question

The research focused on Big Data Text Analytics in financial institutions; on this section, each topic was expanded to give additional information. The research attempted to answer one central question: What, if any, relationship exists between text analytics technology and the outcome of the bank risk rate?

Hypotheses

If banks can suitably apply text analytics technology to monitoring and help to respond to the vulnerability of the web and the relevant social media, then the business risk rate of banks can be significantly reduced. The hypotheses for the central research question are as follows:

H0: There is no correlation between the text analytics technology and the outcome of the bank risk rate.

HA: There is a correlation between the text analytics technology and the outcome of the bank risk rate.

Two variables were defined for the quantitative correlational study, as shown below:

Independent Variable: Text analytics technology. This was a discrete variable with three sub-variables: competitive risk, performance risk, and compliance risk

Dependent Variable: Bank risk rate. This was a probability with the value between 0 and 1.

Operationalizing the central research question indicated the study research questions.

RQ1. What, if any, relationship exists between competitive risk and the outcome of the bank risk rate?

RQ2. What, if any, relationship exists between performance risk and the outcome of the bank risk rate?

RQ3. What, if any, relationship exists between compliance risk and the outcome of the bank risk rate?

The hypotheses for the operationalized research questions using the sub-variables indicates the following.

H10: There is no correlation between the competition risk and the outcome of the bank risk rate.

H1A: There is a correlation between the competition risk and the outcome of the bank risk rate.

H20: There is no correlation between the performance risk and the outcome of the bank risk rate.

H2A: There is a correlation between the performance risk and the outcome of the bank risk rate.

H30: There is no correlation between the compliance risk and the outcome of the bank risk rate.

H3A: There is a correlation between the compliance risk and the outcome of the bank risk rate.
