  1. Visit the website of your Congressional Representative or Senator and identify their position on the aging population. Connect that position to the purpose and activities in OAA according to the title and sections listed in the Older Americans Act as listed in Niles-Yokum and Wagner (Chap 2).  Justify your conclusions with citations from the assigned readings. (Minimum 2 paragraphs).

Each year, the NYC Department for the Aging conducts public hearings to obtain recommendations and comments on its Annual Plan Summary. The public hearings provide an opportunity for older persons, service providers and advocates to identify priority needs, recommend ways to enhance services, and suggest an agenda for legislative advocacy to DFTA and its Senior Advisory Council. I am a member of the Senior Advisory Council. The Department welcomes written and oral testimony on the Annual Plan Summary at the hearings. This input helps DFTA prepare its plan for upcoming fiscal years and enhance its long-term efforts on behalf of the City's elderly. As a member of the Senior Advisory Council, I am interested in hearing what are your thoughts on the Annual Plan Summary.

November is National Family Caregivers Month and the RAISE Family Caregivers Advisory Council is convening to meet to discuss policy priorities. The link below is the Advisory Council’s progress report; please read it and post your response to the following question:

   Which of the following council goals for recommendations do you support and why? 

• Expand awareness, outreach, education, and access for programs, services, and products to optimize the physical, emotional, and financial well-being of family caregivers and care recipients;

• Recognize, include, and support family caregivers as key partners in the provision of health care and long-term services and supports;

• Protect, promote, and enhance financial and workplace security of family caregivers;

• Promote research, identification, and adoption of evidence-based practices in caregiver support; and RAISE Family Caregivers Act: Progress toward a National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers;
