Cellular technologies have been evolving at a greater pace over the past two decades. The network coverage has improved a lot from how it started. Data nowadays is available for cheaper prices and wireless speeds are found to be extraordinary. Cellular technology has entered fifth generation now and the for every decade anew generation mobile technology kept coming so far. The G in 5g refers to generation  and the devices of a given generation also support previous two generation’s technology. The new generation technology might have totally different features when compared to current generation’s features. Users should regularly upgrade their cellular devices when the mobile networks upgrade.

The differences between features of two different generation cellular technologies are due to redefining the rules of how towers  and devices communicate with each other which gives scope for new gear to be developed based on the specifications. The first two generations’ standard was known as GSM and third generation’s standard was named CDMA. Later CDMA got upgraded to 3G+ and 4G LTE. The next generation GSM technology was called 4G LTE i.e Long term Evolution. LTE has become a global standard and is embraced by almost every phone manufacturer available in the market.

It is calculated that mobile operators worldwide are currently investing around $160 billion per year (capex) on expanding and upgrading their networks, despite regulatory and competitive pressures. (Albawaba, 2019) This statement clearly indicates the necessity and how exactly the mobile networks were exploring these days in numerically while talking about the expenditure on it. Even though the entire infrastructure for 5G was not yet built, but its still available in few areas within the U.S. Recently, this year, we have already started looking at MNC companies like Samsung followed by Apple who already started marketing their devices based on 5G compatibility.

The arrival of 5G forms a major part of the worlds move towards an era of Intelligent Connectivity, which alongside developments in the Internet of Things, big data and artificial intelligence, is poised to be a key driver of economic growth over the coming years, said Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA. (Albawaba, 2019) Here, the above statement clearly indicates how the global economy gets impacted with 5G arrival and its applications makes undoubtedly a major significant change both in the growth as well as development of the mobile networks while competing with each other.

Looking further ahead, it is forecast that 5G will contribute $2.2 trillion to the global economy over the next 15 years, with key sectors such as manufacturing, utilities, and professional and financial services benefitting the most from the new technology. These factors play an important role when it comes to doing business globally, using a wireless mobile network.
