November 10, 2020

TOPIC OUTLINE

SHOULD WE HAVE USED THE ATOMIC BOMB IN JAPAN

Introduction

I will begin by giving general information about the events that occurred during this period. This includes some of the reasons why governments fought. I will also give some common facts such as the number of people who lost their lives during the bombing. To capture the accurate details the following source will be used: Hiroshima: Why America Dropped the Atomic Bomb (book). This book contains actual information about the number of settlements and the approximate number of people who lost their lives after the bombing.

Body:

Part 1: Events that took place during and immediately after the attack

This part will assess all the events that took place during the attack and before the attack. Both primary and secondary sources will be used in this session. The primary source that will be used is: Harry Truman Announcing the atomic bomb of Hiroshima (1945). This source is the letter that contains actual words that were said by Harry while he was reporting on the incidences that had occurred immediately after the attack.

I will also use the Memorandum from Vannevar Bush and James B. Conant, to Secretary of War. This source gives all the details about the military actions as it was mapping on areas that the attack would be executed. This includes some geographical constraints and some of the possible solutions so that to ensure that the attack was accurate.

Part 2: Were there other alternatives other than the use of the Bomb?

The second part evaluates whether other alternatives would be used instead of the bombing. This is an important part as it tries to answer the main question which is whether there were other alternatives that the United States would have used instead of using the Atomic Bomb. The first source that will be used is: Hiroshima: Why America Dropped the Atomic Bomb.

The source tries to explain the lives of people in the attack and some of their activities that might have triggered the attack. It has addressed the situation whereby the Japanese army was willing to fight up to the last soldier. The source will be useful for the work as it tries to uncover some of the incidences that the United States might have considered.

Part 3: How the lives of people changed after the Bombing

This part will assess the lives of people and the economy after the attack. It tries to answer the question of how much has Japan changed after the attack. To following source will be useful in this session: Hiroshima bomb: Japan marks 75 years since nuclear attack this is a recent source that was edited in the year 2020. It contains events recalled by some of the people who felt the impact of the attack. The source is important as it gives actual information regarding the attack by people who were arrive at the time.

Conclusion

This session will give a summary of the work. It will also include some of the most important strategies that governments can use to solve a conflict instead of an attack that might lead to the death of innocent lives. It will compile the arguments from session one which explains what might have triggered the use of the bomb. The information on session two about whether the US could have used other alternatives will also be highlighted and how people recall the events of the attack.
