Part one: introduction to the project

Company’s background information and type of business.

For this paper, I will be focusing on John’s online shop, which makes its most sales via e-commerce. Its major products are footwear, clothes, and fashion. This company was launched recently, implying that it is still new with only ten workers and a five million dollars revenue. Further, it is projected that John’s online shop will grow to thirty employees and an income of thirty million dollars within two years. Additionally, there is an expectation that the company will be international within the next five years, where its products will be available and shipped throughout the world in other countries. John’s online shop deals with several fashion wear and clothing, including wedding clothes, pajamas, official clothes, gowns, summer clothes, sportswear, winter clothes and ceremonial clothes. (Sierra, C. G. 2020).

The online shop is currently using a two-story building; however, as it grows larger, it is expected to grow where more building premises will be required. To purchase products from John’s online shop, one has only to visit their official website. After choosing the products they want to buy, they make payments online where a small delivery fee is added. They then choose a convenient location where the product will be delivered within a few days based on the geographical distance between the business and customers.

The company’s information systems

Since John’s Online Shop is an online shop, its information systems ought to support its activities. Thus, like other e-commerce firms like eBay, amazons etc. John’s Online Shop is dependent on information technology for success. The firm’s information systems will include the following:

  1. Database

This is a set of well-arranged information for management and easier access. For John’s Online Shop, the database will be about, the information posted on their official website concerning available products. It will also include prices of the products, pictures of the products. The information on the database ought to be updated regularly example after price changes when products are not available in-store. The database manage should also update new products that are available for clients to purchase.

  1. System analysis

This is the process of examining the business operation systems to verify that it works as required. System analysis will be essential for John’s Online Shop to understand problems and how to solve them; additionally, when there are system errors, this tends to inconvenience the buyers. The system analysis manager should continuously check the security system and network to avoid system failure. (Hanusch, F. 2017).

  1. Security

For any e-business, security is an essential concept where John’s Online Shop should develop a secure authentication process. This will involve everyone to access details having unique login credentials to access the company’s database. Additionally, there should be information encryption and firewall programs that ensure users with malicious intentions are blocked from the system’s access.

  1. Networking

This is the digital telecommunication platform that allows sharing of resources via nodes. To promote more effortless and faster sharing of information and resources for John’s Online Shop, there is a requirement to have a consistent and robust network. The database for the company can only be availed to prospective customers through the network and the internet. Additionally, John’s Online Shop must ensure there is high security of the internet through firewall and data encryption programs.

  1. Computer infrastructure

John’s Online Shop requires several computers that will be used in different processes, including graphic designing, communication with customers and advertisements. For computing to be successful, every worker ought to have a fast and high performing to be productive. Additionally, there should be more computers which will act as a backup plan in case of failure.

  1. Human-computer interaction

This is the concept of making computers and websites to be friendlier, faster, and easier to use. This will require the workers to be informed about different ways they can navigate through various computer systems with ease which will help them to be efficient and more productive. This involves carrying out their roles such as during web design, programming, and networking.

  1. The web designs

This aspect will cater to different skills and disciplines used in the creation and maintenance of websites. Some aspects involved during web design include graphic design, interface design, search engine optimization, design of user experience, among others. Because John’s Online Shop will be based on the website, it should invest in web design that will lead to better user experience and satisfaction. The customers should browse through products easily, make purchases without many efforts and so on. (Farney, T. 2018).
