Abstract

An abstract is a brief, comprehensive summary of the contents of the paper. It is the only paragraph in an APA paper in which the first line is not idented. This section of the paper must be no more than 250 words in length.

Keywords: [select three to four keywords from the paper, focusing on the concepts, principles, and theories that are applied.]

Paper Title [no more than two double-spaced lines]

Statement of the Problem/Process

This section should describe the problem or process that the paper is intended to examine. This section should be limited to a sentence or two, a paragraph at most.

Case Description

This section should briefly describe to the reader the facts of the case that bear on the problem or process under examination. In the interest of brevity, it is important to discuss only those facts that have a direct bearing on the problem or process

Analysis and Evaluation

This section is designed to develop at least two but no more than three alternatives that are designed to address the problem or process. Alternatives must be developed through the application of relevant organizational behavior concepts, principles, and theories that have been discussed during the course.

Recommendation

In this section, students must select what they consider to be the best alternative, discuss why they believe it to be so, as well as how and when it should be implemented.

[As I have indicated in my feedback on the weekly case assignments, the entire paper must be double-spaced, including the title page, abstract, text, headings, reference list, table and figure notes, and appendices, except as shown in the title page in this example. When line spacing is set to ‘double’, the spacing before and after each line must be set to ‘zero’. These settings appear in the ‘Paragraph’ dialogue box under ‘Home’ in the formatting ribbon at the top of MS word. The text of the paper must be aligned to the left margin and the right margin must be uneven (“ragged”). Do not use full justification.]

[As also stated in the “Research Project Requirements” document, students should limit the use of direct quotations to no more than 10% of any paper (I have provided feedback on this to several students in their weekly case assignments). A direct quotation reproduces words verbatim from another work. It is best to paraphrase rather than directly quoting these sources because paraphrasing allows the writer to more easily fit material to the context of the paper and his or her writing style. Use direct quotations instead of paraphrasing when reproducing an exact definition, when an author has said something memorably or succinctly, or when the writer wishes to respond to an author’s exact wording. When you quote directly, always provide the author, year, and page number of the quotation in the in-text citation in either parenthetical or narrative format. Block quotations (any direct quote that is 40 words or more in length) must be formatted in block style without quotation marks. See Paragraph 8.27 in the APA Manual, 7th edition. Whether you quote directly or paraphrase, you must properly cite and reference the information taken from any source.]
