CMNS 251 A5 INFORMAL EXTERNAL PROPOSAL Format : External proposal in letter format and slide presentation , both documented in APA style and both using at least one graphic Length : Written proposal: 4-5 pages Slide Presentation: 20 -30 slides, 4 minutes rea ding time Due Dates : Draft March 15 ; Peer Feedback March 18 ; Final March 22 (Final due date may be extended to April 6 if no instructor feedback is required.) Evaluation: See assignment rubric This assignment tests your progress towards the following 251 learning outcomes: • Gather and document information using current research and retrieval services and APA methods. • Demonstrate techniques for solving workplace problems through analysis, research, and critical thinking. • Interpret, evaluate and organize researched information. • Produce and adapt reports for both digital and print audiences. • Develop appropriate and effect ive graphic aids to support report outcomes. • Demonstrate the ability to express ideas concisely, clearly, and logically . This assignment may require you to make up some information, for example your own company name and address, projected costs, or the cr edentials of an imaginary team. Whenever possible, use information grounded in reputable research. Use research from your investigation report (A3) and/or recommendation report (A4) to prepare an informal external proposal for a 3 -week , non -credit UFV mini -course on one of the following common student problems: • Motivation • Time management (especially procrastinati on) • Temptations to plagiarise • Technological literacy (e.g. adjusting to a learning management system such as BlackBoard) • Social isolation, anxiety, stress, or depression • Inequalities of access to technology The proposal must inclu de all the standar d sections described and demonstrated in Chapt er 12, pages 433 -438 (e.g. Background, Proposed Plan and Benef its, etc.) . The Staffing and Qualifications section may include made -up st aff with relevant qualifications and made -up (but believable) former clients. The Costs section should include a total cost for a specific number of students and their learning mate rials . 2 Your info rmal proposal must also include the following details: • a detailed description of the proposed course , broken down into subsections (See Proposed Plan and Benefits on page 3 of sample informa l proposal , CR page 437 ). This description should include method of online delivery (e.g. B lackboard, Zoom, Discord) , course ma terials, and course activities . Add other details as you think fi t. • outlines of three different c lasses (2 hours each) , including general class topic , 3-4 subtopics, and online learning activities (e.g. class discussion, exercise, quiz, group discussion ). • a final assignment (to be described, not writ ten in full) • a Staffing and Qualifications section that clearly shows the appropri ate The sli de presentation mu st deliver the same information as the written proposal, with the following adaptations for online presentation: • title slide with tit le, your name, your company name, name of client, and date • preview /overview slide with all standard headings for an informal prop osal • Standard headings and sub headings incorporated into slide ti tles • point form (no sentences or paragraphs) with no more than 7 points per slide • accompanying visual s (e.g. graphi cs, photographs, i llustrations) • optional voiceover • professional appearance and a ttracti ve design The slideshow mu st stand alone as it s own document.
