  • To illustrate how different environments and factors affect the organization structure, design and strategy.

Instructions

  • This organizational analysis is to be done individually. Carefully read and review the organizational study and write a 1,800-2,000-word organizational analysis report, In MS Word, double spaced, 12point font, APA standards, excluding title page or references.

  • Using all the organizational theory and design concepts you learned so far in this course you should analyze the organizational study by answering the two organizational questions below while focusing on how the organization changed its structure to achieve its new strategic goals.

  • Your organizational analysis must include a minimum of 3 external academic resources.

Assignment Questions:

Assume that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the fictional company that is assigned to you, has hired you as an Organization design consultant to help him/her to improve the organization’s performance.

You can make any appropriate assumptions to help you with your assignment. For example, you can assume that:

  • Your organization is the market leader (number 1 in the industry) or lower.

  • Your company is Global organization with offices in many countries or in just one country.

….. etc.

Write your assignment as if it is a report to the CEO covering the following two objectives:

  1. Describe with examples the following concepts to the CEO:

  • Unit 1: Organization design

  • Mintzberg’s Organizational Types ((Professional Bureaucracy, Machine Bureaucracy, Adhocracy or Entrepreneurial startup)

  • Mintzberg’s Organizational 5 Basic Parts (Core, Technical Support, Administrative Support, Top Management and Middle Management)

  • Unit 2: Organizational Strategy

  • Mission, vision, values and strategic goals

  • Unit 5: Manufacturing and Service Technologies

  • Describe the services and or tangible products that your organization provides then state whether you consider this organization a manufacturing organization, a service organization, or a mix of both and why?

  • Describe the Core Technology (Transformation) Process for the assigned organization.

  1. Advise the CEO with examples on what to do regarding the following concepts to improve the organization’s performance:

  • Porter’s Competitive Strategies

  • Pick Three Stakeholders for this organization and what do they expect from this organization.

  • Unit 3: Organizational structure

  • Type of organizational structure (Functional, divisional, matrix….etc.)

III. Vertical vs horizontal communications.

  • Unit 3: The External Environment

  • External environment (General environment & task environment). Apply only 1 general environment and 1 task environment factors to the organization.

  • Unit 4: Interorganizational Relationships

  • Give only one example only of an interorganizational relation for this organization and explain which type it is (Collaboration Network, Resources dependence, Institutionalization or Population Ecology)

  • Unit 5: Manufacturing and Service Technologies

  • Explain the Interdependence and Management Implications (Reciprocal, sequential or pooled). Give examples.

  • Unit 6: Organizational Life Cycle

  • Explain the organizational life concept and what is the life cycle stage your company is at? What characteristics does the company have at this life cycle stage? What they have to do to address the “Red Queen” effect. Give examples.

  • Unit 7: Organizational Culture

  • Give 1 example of a social capital activity that the organization is involved in.
