Indigenous people in Canada 1

Topic - Indigenous people in Canada (Colonialism, Aboriginal people, and Racism in Canada)

Thesis – Over the past decade, Aboriginal people have been oppressed by the Canadian government and continue to live under racism resulting in gender/class oppression. Colonialism and capitalism have had a tremendous impact on the design and influence of how Aboriginal people are treated and seen in contemporary Canadian society.

Body Paragraphs

1st section – This will explain the settler’s colonialism in Canada, how they systematically targeted Indigenous people to privilege the settlers who came to Canada.

2nd section - Treaties making process, how it was negotiated to be a peaceful relation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal but later transformed into land entitlements. Ex. Royal Proclamation.

3rd section- Impact of colonization and treaty making process on Aboriginal people, how Aboriginal people are treated and viewed in Canadian society, struggles, inequality, and discrimination.

The topic looks good! It might be difficult to go in depth with each section in such a short paper, so if you have to pare down I'd suggest keeping the first body paragraph shorter and focusing on the aspects we haven't discussed in class.
