  1. This week’s questions are from the course textbook, How Newark Became Newark: The Rise, Fall, and Rebirth of an American City. Please write a short essay for the following questions:


  1. What were the sentiments of the City of Newark regarding slavery and the Civil War, and how did those sentiments relate to the political, social and economic growth and development of Newark? Give examples from this week’s required reading.

  1. In 1872 Newark hosted an industrial exhibition. What was the purpose and significance to Newark as a burgeoning city? What was the exhibition’s international connection?

  1. Prepare an original and thoughtful (including references) response of 500 words.
