Hello, I have uploaded the CPT Assignment with an example. Please go through the attached file properly and let me know if anyone is interested in to do?
INITIAL GOALS STATEMENT
Setting goals helps to ensure that all parties involved are working toward the same intended outcomes; ensuring that your time is used productively (as agreed upon by your supervisor), and that you gain the maximum out of your internship experience. It is good to have a mix of both short term and long term goals, easily attainable goals and very challenging goals. Each section is worth 5 points, with an additional 5 points for goals written as SMART goals.
Please use the SMART method when writing goals.
Specific (What exactly do you want to do? Clear, concise, tanglible.)
Measurable (How will you know the goal is acheived? Time, money, volume – how much of how many?)
Achievable (Is it something you have control over? Should be challenging, but not impossible.)
Relevant (Why/how is this applicable to you/your career? Consistent/help with long term goals.)
Time-focused (When do you want to accomplish it? 2 weeks into your internship? By the end?)
You should be able to answer the questions in parenthesis about your goals – which will come in handy for the Final Goals Assessment. As an example, let’s say I want to create a SMART goal about running a half-marathon. I want to run a half-marathon in less than 2 hours and 30 minutes by October 1 using Hal Higdon’s training plan. This goal is Specific, Measurable, Achievable (I have done one before and have time to train), Relevant (I enjoy running and living a healthy lifestyle), and Time-focused.
Please create 2 SMART goals for each subject area listed below.
ACADEMIC (what classroom knowledge do you want to apply/test at the workplace):
I want to use the different coding languages such as C# and JavaScript effectively in a real life application, this gets measured when I have to submit my work to a development branch and it is tested for efficiency and formatting. By coding in multiple languages it will help me in my career to give me more options for a job. We are working in 2 week iterations (sprints) which we are assigned work that is due by the end of the iterations. These 2 week iterations keep me on track and motivated.
I want to create databases effectively and be able to set up API’s that call functions to insert/retrieve/update to the databases with the project information I have been put in charge of. This also gets tested and evaluated by 3 “gatekeepers” who have been doing database work for a combine 40+ years and know the most effective and fundamentally correct uses for them. By working with these “gatekeepers” I learn a tremendous amount about technology and increase my technical skills. Again we work in 2 week iterations (sprints) which we are assigned work that is due by the end of the iterations.
CAREER & SKILL DEVELOPMENT (what do you want to learn more about regarding the qualifications/duties of the career; is there something specific to the job/career you want to know more about, are there particular skills, knowledge or programs you want to learn more about):
3. The thing I really wanted to be a part of and work in is what they call an ‘Agile” system of building applications. This is when a business works together and is very open about what they are working on and work in a team aspect. Each morning there is a 15-minute standup where we discuss what we have done the day before and where our focus will be pointed at that day. Here you can discuss issues and roadblocks in your work. Already I feel like I’ve learned so much and as of the first meeting I was a part of a team. They welcomed me in and wanted me participating in everything as if I was a full time employee. I have been participating fully ever since.
4. Along with the meetings and openness of agile development, being a part of these professional meetings where we learn how to get details and requirements from the business we are designing the application for is a big part of why I wanted to get this internship. Learning how to work with a business to develop applications to meet their business needs is something you never are exposed to in a classroom setting. By the end of July, I want to be able to sit in on a meeting with the business and fully understand where the requirements for development come from. I have been sitting in and listening and taking notes already and by the end of July I will be able to catch the requirements on my own.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT (what do you want to work on relative to yourself; develop decision making, critical thinking skills, increase confidence, etc.):
7. My critical thinking skills get put to the test here every day. Working on these programs is a constant problem solving process. My self-development is to be able to step back and realize it all starts with just solving the first problem, then the next, and eventually if you solve enough you have a working program with the functionality you need to meet the requirements of the business. We assign “points” to task that we work on during an iteration. My goal is by the end of this internship to be able to complete all of my task with no run over to the next iteration in the appropriate time periods.
8. I also wanted to work on my professional setting confidence. This isn’t something that I feel like I lacked coming in, but with that said you can never feel to prepared to be in a professional setting and step up and add your thoughts in a meeting or when working with the team. I have a final presentation the week before I return to school to show all the functionality I have added to the web application and explain how I did each part. This will test my confidence in my abilities and put my public speaking to the test as all the senior developers and managers will be in attendance.
By checking this box, and including your supervisor’s e-mail here [email protected], you verify that you have discussed this document and your answers with your supervisor. You both agree that these goals are appropriate for your internship.
