Part 1

Review the article by Garret Hardin in the reading about the "Tragedy of the Commons" and also research this idea further on your own. Describe the premises of the tragedy of the commons and discuss how some have sought to apply this idea to the problems in the overuse of prisons in the United States. Discuss your own belief about whether the tragedy of the commons exists in the prison system and why or why not.

Part 2

discussed the following sources of energy: biomass, hydropower, geothermal, wind, solar, petroleum, natural gas, coal, waste to energy, and uranium (nuclear). You will select up to three different energy sources and answer the following questions for each. You will need to use outside sources to obtain information and back-up your opinions. 

  • Provide a brief explanation of the sources (do not just say solar comes from the sun...)

  • Describe the process the source of energy undergoes for it to become usable

  • Is it renewable or nonrenewable? Explaining why using outside sources. 

  • Aside from being renewable or nonrenewable, list one additional pro and con for each of your sources of energy. 

All outside sources must be cited in APA format.
