Role of the Researcher

Baker, V. L., & Pifer, M. J. ( 2011 ). The role of relationships in the transition from doctor to independent scholar. Studies in Continuing Education, 33(1), 5-17. http://doi.org/10.1080/0158037X. 2010.515569

This research article focuses on the stages of the doctoral student experience. Baker and Pifer (2011) specifically address the second stage about the critical transition from 'dependence' to 'independence'. The authors claim that Stage 2 is one of the most significant steps in doctoral studies where the students get the opportunity to develop an identity. The authors argue that there is a connection between relationships and learning that could help the student achieve both a student role and a scholar’s role. The research also revealed having a full understanding of the relationships as a part of the doctoral education could help all the students involved in doctoral education to acknowledge the significance of attending to the need to transition from ‘dependence’ to ‘independence’. Finally, the authors argue the significance of effective relationships between the student and the faculty and instructors in the transitioning process from being dependent to independent scholars because the scholars provide guidance, opportunities, and support during this stage of transition.

The article will be used to demonstrate the importance of relationships in guiding, supporting, and providing opportunities to help doctoral students attain identity.

Dóci, E., & Bal, P. M. (2018). Ideology in work and organizational psychology: t he responsibility of the researcher. European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology, 27(5), 558-560.

Dóci and Bal embarked on identifying the responsibilities of a researcher in psychology. The authors articulate the importance of researchers continuously reflecting on what Work and Organizational Psychology (WOP) means in the world, how to contribute towards a better understanding of people in the workplaces. The researchers sought to identify whether WOPs were expected to consider the societal and structural conditions considering the fact that psychology is a scientific field that focuses on individuals. Based on this, the authors argue that researchers were not expected to consider the structural, societal, and political influence into account. However, it was important for the WOP to consider the structural, societal, and political influence because many factors come into play in the workplace as workplaces are social and political institutions. Another role established by the authors is new for researchers to reflect on how they are influenced by societal beliefs and ideologies. This would allow the researchers to make more deliberate decisions about the objectives of the research and focusing on outcomes that matter the most for both individuals and organizations.

The article will thus be used to illustrate the role of the researcher in making more deliberate decisions about the objectives of the research, focusing on outcomes that matter the most, and considering structural, societal, and political influence.

Martins, F. S., Felisoni, P. R., & Gaspar, M. A. (2020). Planning academic publications-the role of the researcher and the development of publicable proposals. Iberoamerican Journal of Strategic Management (IJSM), 19(3), 164-181.

The researchers, Martins, Felisoni, and Gaspar, embarked on a study to analyze the development of academic research projects from the viewpoint of a researcher as a professional. The researchers sought to identify the researcher’s fit for the task, from the research proposal to completing the research itself. The authors identified various challenges affecting the researchers in the field of social sciences. As a result, the authors of the journal affirm that it is the responsibility of the researcher to depict higher levels of personal balance, attain the need for balancing the active aspects of planning contributions during research to the passive side of explaining the theory. According to the perspective of the authors, preventing the potential for failure in the research projects.

The purpose of this article in the doctoral paper will be to use the arguments raised by the authors to discuss the role of the researchers in balancing the active aspects of planning contributions during research to the passive side of explaining the theory as well as achieving personal balance during research.

Simon, M. ( 2011 ). The role of the researcher.

This article explains the role of the researcher in both qualitative and quantitative studies. First, the author argues that the role of the researcher in quantitative research is nearly non-existent. This is because the participants act independently. For example, the author argues that correlational studies can gather data without regard to the participants or the person collecting the data. On the contrary, the role of the researcher is very different when it comes to qualitative research. The researcher has to be conscious of the human element because the consumers of the data will want to understand that. Therefore, it is the role of the researcher to describe the relevant aspects of self such as the biases, limitations, experiences, expectations, and assumptions that the researcher made during the research. Furthermore, the researcher is expected to explain his or her role in the research for qualitative research. Finally, Simon argues that a researcher should ask probing questions, listen, think, and asks more probing questions to attain a deeper understanding by building a picture of the ideas and theories from various sources.

Slembrouck, S. (2015). The role of the researcher in interview narratives. The handbook of narrative analysis, 239-254.

Slembrouck addresses the role of the researcher in an interview. The author specifically addresses the role played by the researcher in interviews that use narratives and methodologies of narrative analysis (Slembrouck, 2015). For example, the researcher is expected to consider the conditions of narrative and the narrative outcomes based on the common forms of data collection deployed – the research interview. When using the narrative approach, the article explains the role played by the researcher in this context, where the researcher acts as an interactant with strategic investment in the interview and the researcher acting as a post hoc analyst of the data collected from the interview. The author argues that the role of the researcher sometimes may sometimes work in the background, contributing towards achieving the goals of the interview narration.

The article will thus be used to illustrate the role of the researcher in an interview narrative where the researcher may act as a post hoc analyst of the data collected and as an interactant.

Degree

My degree program was a Master of Science in Psychology and my area of emphasis will be to study the role of a researcher .

Research Focus

The topic area aligns with my degree in Master of Science in Psychology and the emphasis area since the degree provides a foundation of knowledge in the field while the area of emphasis provides the skills needed to amass the knowledge through research .

Feasibility of Research Problem

The topic is viable and can be researched and be done. The research problem is possible to answer and the scope of the research question is manageable in the context of the class. The research question directs the central inquiry of the study because the research will be answering the research questions. The research topic will help researchers understand their role in identifying the treatments that work best for patients and in discovering new treatments or interventions. Understanding the role of the researcher will also help to effectively use the existing resources in the best way possible to improve our communities. There is a wide range of data sources that can be used for the research problem. The topic is thus feasible.

Problem Statement

Currently, the steps that a researcher has to follow to conduct a research study. However, little is known about the exact role that the researcher has to play. It is important to understand the specific roles of the researcher in a research study. The significance of understanding the role of the researcher is that it will help future researchers to remain focused on their research study. The researcher will identify the areas needed to increase knowledge in a particular field, plan and perform surveys and experiments, as well as effectively and accurately collect, record, and analyze data by understanding their roles in research. Identifying all the roles of a researcher in a single research article has not been achieved before. This will thus be an important research article that needs to be investigated because researchers intending to understand their roles will not have to research across different sources to understand their roles but find them in a single research article.

Defense of Article Selection

The articles selected will help to identify past literature on the topic. The articles will help to provide a better understanding of the research problems. The articles that were annotated were the articles that would help to increase the understanding of what was happening in the text and incorporate them in the research that I was to conduct. The main points raised by the authors and the key areas of focus aligned with my area of focus, helping me to develop strong arguments to support the research problem. By annotating the five articles, I was able to achieve a deeper understanding of the articles and the arguments raised by the authors.

The articles also helped me to better comprehend and retain the arguments raised by the authors about the area of focus. For instance, annotating the articles helped me to gather the information that I would use later on by going through the annotated bibliography.

The sources selected to align with my research focus because the articles selected for the annotated bibliography seek to answer the research question. Therefore, the use of the research articles will be to answer the research question. All the articles adopted for the annotated bibliography are current because they have been published within the last five years. The research articles selected are also relevant because they have been published recently and thus the arguments raised in the articles are up-to-date. The articles are peer-reviewed journals which means that they have been written by experts in the field and reviewed by other experts in the field to ensure the articles are of high quality and have scientifically valid conclusions.
