Discussion: The Green Supply Chain

The Green Supply Chain

Swedish teen environmental activist, Greta Thunberg, became the face of climate change with her words, tweets, and unrelenting finger-pointing at older generations: "You have stolen my childhood and my dreams with your empty words."

Over a decade ago, "green" supply chains were more talk than action. Predictions from 2010 are being realized and exceeded today.

WEEK 1 DISCUSSION POST

Using this week's readings to understand the green supply chain, venture out and find at least one other recent resource for the post. It is not necessary to explain the green supply chain since we have all done the research. For your post:

  • Provide guidance as to how green techniques/activities are integrated into the supply chain.

  • Discuss barriers to establish a green chain.

  • Using the resource beyond this week's readings, provide a real-world example of a company employing "greening" in its supply chain and how it worked out for them. (The article should be less than two years old.)

This post should be 2 paragraphs in length (150-200 words). Since you are engaging in research, be sure to cite in the body of the post and add a reference list in APA format. NOTE: failure to use research with accompanying citations to support content will result in reduced scoring "Level 2-Developing" for Quality of Initial Posting, Critical Thinking, and Reference to Supporting Readings/Information Literacy on the grading rubric.

WEEK 1 INTERACTIVE RESPONSES TO CLASSMATES

1st Interactive Response:

  • Analyze one student's industry examination of green activities and compare/contrast it to your post.

2nd Interactive Response:

  • Analyze another student's company example and compare/contrast it to your post.

Each reply should be one paragraph in length (or about 75 words) and must be substantive in nature. Do not simply say "I agree" or "That is great"; specify why and be detailed in your explanation. You may use research in your responses, but it is not required.

WEEK 2 DISCUSSION POST

The week's readings provide recent articles on plans and funding schemes for green projects and a look at examples of company applications. Find at least one other recent resource for support. For your post:

  • Discuss long- and short-term costs for green initiatives in the supply chain.

  • Consider non-cost-based tradeoffs considered in green chain decision-making.

  • Using the resource beyond this week's readings, provide a real-world example of a US-based company rolling out a green supply chain initiative and how it was positioned for marketing or branding.

WEEK 2 INTERACTIVE RESPONSES TO CLASSMATES

1st Interactive Response:

  • Analyze one student's tradeoffs of green activities and compare/contrast them to your post.

2nd Interactive Response:

  • Analyze another student's company positioning example and compare/contrast it to your post.

Each reply should be one paragraph in length (or about 75 words) and must be substantive in nature. Do not simply say "I agree" or "That is great"; specify why and be detailed in your explanation. You may use research in your responses, but it is not required.

In your own words, respond to the discussion and comments of classmates.

Grades will be based on effectual, concise, and interactive feedback.  The excessive use of quotes or unoriginal content will directly impact performance since it suggests lack of comprehension and indicates that a student may not have mastered the concepts.
