2420-Lab 9- Immunology- Agglutination

Directions:

Answer questions after reading the information and watching the video from the links below. Use color RED for your answers. Submit the completed document on eCampus for grading. Refer to

  • the textbook Openstax Microbiology Chapter 20

  • Link: Agglutination- (Antigen-Antibody reaction) - I (6-A, B,) (Virtual Edge Experiment-6- Introduction, A –skip B)

  • This document has 10 questions to answer

  • Students MUST use scientific terminology while answering all questions

  • For each wrong answer 0.5 points will be deducted

  1. Introduction:

Read from

  • the textbook chapters 15, 18 (sections 15.4, 18.3, 18.4), (Nester- McGraw Hill)

  • Link: Agglutination- (Antigen-Antibody reaction) - I (6-A) (Virtual Edge Experiment-6- Introduction, A)

Define the following terms:

  1. Antigen

  2. Antibody

  3. Epitope

  4. Immunoassay

  5. Polyclonal antibodies

  6. Monoclonal antibodies

  7. Agglutination

  8. Precipitation

  1. Hemagglutination (Blood typing)
For background: 6-A
  1. Complete the following table.

  1. Complete the following table by writing the results of blood typing experiment.

Well A: has anti-A antibodies

Well B: has anti-B antibodies

Well Rh: has anti-Rh antibodies

(For each blood type, if you add blood in each of the above wells, will agglutination be see seen in the respective well or not is what you will be reporting in the table.)

You could use + for presence of agglutination and – for absence of agglutination (or you could be creative).
