Overview
The purpose of this study was to provide recommendations to the leadership team at Hampton High School with possible solutions to the problem of students’ low test scores on the Ohio Educational Assessment (OEA) for Science. This portion of the report examines literature related to the research problem. The historical significance of standardized testing is discussed, along with its evolution into modern educational practices. Additionally, the OEA for Science is discussed in detail, particularly with regard to how this test was designed and developed, as well as its manner of fulfilling federal accountability requirements. Finally, factors that are associated with students’ performance on standardized tests are discussed.
