Research Paper: Topic Assignment Instructions

Overview

As you gain more knowledge about the profession of life coaching, areas of interest may begin to surface for you. At this point in the course, it is important for you to consider an area of life coaching you wish to research more in depth. Choosing a topic is the first step in writing your Research Paper: Final Assignment (due later in the course), and often one of the most overwhelming. This course is designed to help you take the Research Paper Assignment process one step at a time, helping you strengthen your writing skills and gain the most information from your research. In order to narrow in on concepts specific to our course, five areas of research have been provided for you to choose from. Please identify the topic area you believe would most benefit you personally and professionally, although your rationale will focus on the professional importance of the topic. Choose an area that will challenge you as opposed to a topic of research you have completed in the past or believe will be “easier.”

Instructions

  • You must choose your topic from the list below.

  • Write 4–5 sentences describing the rationale of your topic (why this issue or topic is important from a professional perspective). Your rationale must go beyond stating “I think this is interesting” or “I would like to learn more about this specific topic.”

  • First person point of view must not be used in this topic submission.

  • You must include at least 8 potential scholarly, empirical, current sources (published within the last 5 years) that are directly related to your topic. Be sure to select a variety of scholarly sources and format the reference page according to current APA format.

  • Sources such as Wikipedia, Dictionary.com, and non-scholarly journals such as Psychology Today are not appropriate for your reference list. Also note that the course text may not be used as one of the 8 potential sources.

  • Submit your topic, rationale, and potential scholarly sources in one Word document.
