Checklist – View the 5 videotapes assigned for the observation of the following: math concepts; engagement in problem-solving or engineering design; block play; science investigation; and learning from nature. Complete the checklist provided per the directions written on each of the assignment pages.
Paper – When you have completed the checklist, write a one to two page summary response. The summary must include:
Your overall reactions to all the videos you watched; and then make
Comparisons of information obtained from your textbook, other readings and in class discussions to the lab assignment. (What similarities did you see? What did you see that was different?)
When you are finish, upload the completed assignment and summary online.
Required Component – This assignment is required for completion of this course. If this assignment is not completed and earned at least 70% of possible points for the assignment, you will not receive a passing grade in this class.

2. Watch this VIDEO (Learning Problem Solving and Growth Mindset in a Makerspace, November 16, 2018) Describe the play scene where a child was engaged in either a problem-solving or an engineering type of activity. What did he/she say and do?
3. Watch this VIDEO (YouTube: Embedded Learning Opportunity, May 4, 2008) Observe the children in the block area. Describe the skills you observe or that you feel they could learn through building with blocks.

4. Describe an actual play scene from this block area including how children are specifically using one or more of the skills you checked.
5. When children investigate, they develop science concepts or the “big ideas” in science. Watch this VIDEO (Science and STEM Exploration Centers, July 16, 2018). Describe an activity that you observed in each of the following areas:
