ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

  • The length should be about 1–2 pages for EACH question, double spaced for EACH question. Emphasize quality over quantity.

  • Use references (e.g., chapter number and section) to support your answers;

  • Make the points clear and concise.

  • The required chapter/units will be attached in the files.

1. Think broadly about how infants change over their first year of life. Describe how their perception and perspective on the world changes by the time they reach their first birthday. Specifically, choose three physical changes (e.g., brain, motor, perceptual), three cognitive changes (e.g., Piagetian or information processing concepts), and three social or emotional changes to describe.

2. Compare and contrast Piagetian and information-processing views of cognitive development of infant and toddlers, based on your notes and textbook reading from unit 6. Specifically, describe these theories in terms of how they are different and/or similar, and discuss the benefits and drawbacks to each approach.

3. Based on topics discussed in unit 7, explain why stranger wariness and attachment are adaptive responses. In other words, how does does stranger wariness promote an infants/toddlers survival? How does attachment promote survival?

4. How does an infant's temperament affect the development of attachments and the development of social behaviour?  Give some examples to demonstrate the interaction between these factors discussed in Chapter 7.
