Writing Assignment 2: Social Media Impacts on Sleep

Participants

The research began on 21st February 2022, and we made the conclusions for the research on 5th April 2022. From the research, there was a total of 864 participants, where 573 were men while 291 were women. Focusing on the ages of the participants, 196 were aged less than 21 years, 289 participants were aged less than 31 years, 213 participants were aged less than 41 years, 118 participants and aged less than 51 years, while a total of 48 participants aged 52 or more years but they were less than 70 years. We excluded people over 70 years old as they did not know much about technology, making them hardly use it in bed. (Dewa et al., 2019)

Procedures.

To get valid results from the research, we used different data collection methods, including interviews, questionnaires, and surveys. The research focused on using qualitative data, which would be used in exploring ideas that would be used in justifying the thesis for the research proposes. When carrying out the research, we did not offer compensation as it would alter the results that we could achieve. Different measures had different response rates; for instance, the questionnaire had the best response rate ranging at 78%, followed by an interview with a 67% response rate, while the survey had the last with a 52% response rate. The response rate was essential for the research as I achieved my target sample, allowing me to get effective results. (Smith et al., 2018)

Measures

  1. Questionnaire

In the questionnaire methodology, we aimed to collect 350 samples where we had printed both open-ended and closed-ended questions. Based on the 350 samples, we collected a total of 318 as 32 samples were not well responded, and we had to classify them as null. The results from the questionnaire had different answers depending on the time the participants slept using social media platforms. (Godsell et al., 2019)

  1. Interview

In the interview methodology, we had the aim of collecting 320 samples. Despite having a good target, we managed to collect a total of 307 samples. We used several interview methods, including meeting with our clients and calling them if they had tight schedules. Most participants were honest in this data collection method, and their data was more consistent than the survey methodology.

  1. Survey.

In this methodology, we aimed to collect 300 samples, but we had a 53% response rate where we managed to collect 253 samples. This was among the research methods as there are different social media platforms, and it would be hard to know the platform a person was using and at what time a person slept using it. Considering the results that we had collected, the results were accurate.

Statistical analysis

  1. Descriptive analysis

We used several descriptive analysis methods in the research, including the mode and mean. The mean of the analysis methods was 211, while the mode was 260. The frequency for the nominal measures was 34 years. (Starostin, 2019)

  1. Primary analyses

In the primary data analysis, I used multiple regression using SPSS software. Conducting multiple regression using the SPSS would be easy as I was required to feed the data to the software and then proceed with analyzing the correlations in the data. Analyzing the correlations in the data would allow me to develop an informed model regarding the data. After analyzing, I could classify the data making it simpler to get the conclusion. Lastly, I ended up validating the data's usefulness in the model. The SPSS was essential in the research as it allowed me to get different results; thus, I could make different conclusions concerning the data. (Astivia, 2019)
