Discussion Unit 7

We learned that Strain Theory suggests that people are inherently good and when placed under extreme pressure resort to deviant behavior.

Social Bonds theory suggests that people are bad by nature and only are good when they have formed the proper social bonds. Compare and contrast these two views and then pick a side and explain why.

Toby argues that people with stakes in conformity do not commit crime and people who do not have stakes in conformity are prone to committing crimes.  Is this view over simplistic?  Or perhaps it is that simple.  State your opinion and justify why.
