Materials for Case Preparation

For your midterm Case Preparation this term, you will analyze the issues and the stakeholders related to the price of insulin in the U.S. Base your analysis on the supporting materials (articles and videos) listed below and any relevant supporting concepts in the textbook. Please do not do any additional research for this assignment. Current events may change rapidly, but for this assignment, use only these materials for your analyses.

TASKS Task 1. Analyze the Citizenship of Key Stakeholder Groups

In your text, Figure 3.5 The Stages of Global and Corporate Citizenship identifies seven (7) dimensions of citizenship: Citizenship Content, Strategic Intent, Leadership, Structure, Issues Management, Stakeholder Relationships and Transparency, and five (5) stages from the lowest levels of citizenship, Stage 1: Elementary to the highest level of citizenship, Stage 5: Transforming.


To prepare for the final exam, you should study the case, and to the extent possible given the information in the reading and video materials, be prepared to discuss each of the dimensions of citizenship and assess the stage or stages demonstrated by key stakeholders.

You should be prepared to answer essay questions such as:


  • Discuss the Citizenship Content dimension and assess the stage demonstrated by one or more key stakeholder (e.g., drug manufacturers, insurance companies, “middle men”, etc., and give at least three examples.

  • Discuss the Strategic Intent dimension and assess the stage(s) demonstrated by one or more key stakeholder, and give at least three examples.

  • Discuss the Leadership dimension and assess the stage(s) demonstrated by one or more key stakeholder, and give examples.

  • Discuss the Issues Management and assess the stage(s) demonstrated by one or more key stakeholder, and give at least three examples.

  • Discuss the Stakeholder Relationships and assess the stage(s) demonstrated by one or more key stakeholder, and give at least three examples.

  • Assess how the overall Global Corporate Citizenship of a key stakeholder evolved during the case using at least three examples of how one dimension evolved during the case to support your assessment.

Task 2. Analyze and Apply Ethical Approaches.

In your text, Figure 5.5 Four Methods of Ethical Reasoning identifies four (4) of ethical reasoning: Virtues, Utilitarian, Rights, and Justice.

You should be prepared to answer essay questions such as:


  • Analyze whether or not key stakeholders groups (e.g., drug manufacturers, insurance companies, “middle men”, government, etc.) were ethical if you apply the Virtues method of reasoning.  Provide examples.

  • Analyze whether or not key stakeholder groups were ethical if you apply the Utilitarian method of reasoning.  Provide examples.

  • Analyze whether or not key stakeholder groups were ethical if you apply the Justice method of reasoning.  Provide examples.

  • Analyze whether or not key stakeholders groups were ethical if you apply the Rights method of reasoning.  Provide examples.

  • Analyze whether or not Other Actors mentioned in the case were ethical if you apply the Virtues method of reasoning.  Provide examples.

Task 3. Identifying and describing the responsibility of key stakeholder groups.

To prepare for the final exam, study the case and identify which stakeholder groups bear responsibility for the key issues/problems identified in the case. Be prepared to answer questions like:



  • Which stakeholder bears the most responsibility for the problems discussed in the case? Explain.

  • Discuss at least two stakeholder groups that bear some responsibility for the problems discussed in the case.

  • Discuss whether or not customers bear any responsibility for the problems discussed in the case? Explain.

  • Does government bear any responsibility for the problems discussed in the case? Explain.
