LL290 In-text citation practice

In-text citation basics:

  1. All paraphrased and quoted information taken from a source must be cited with an in-text citation.

  2. The easiest in-text citation is (author’s last name, year of publication).

For example, the in-text citation for this source Are All Short Stories O. Henry Stories? | The New Yorker is (Menand, 2021)

  1. If your source does not have an author, use the first 2 words of the article title.

For example, this source has no author: The Life and Times of Edgar Allan Poe - Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov)

and the citation is (Edgar Allan, 2017)

  1. If your source does not have a year of publication or copyright date, use n.d.

For example, this source has no author or date: About Edgar Allan Poe | Academy of American Poets and the in-text citation would be (Edgar Allan, n.d.)

Here is an example of a correctly cited quote:

A New Yorker article about O. Henry’s life states, “In prison, Porter wrote fourteen stories and began using O. Henry as a pen name” (Menand, 2021).

Here is an example of a correctly cited paraphrase of that same information:

The short story writer began to compose and publish under the name O. Henry while serving time in jail (Menand, 2021).
