Rhetorical Analysis Paper

Start Assignment

In a two-three page typed, double-spaced essay, address the following:

Choose a rhetorical artifact. This "artifact" Can be any form of message delivery: A commercial, a Public Service Announcement (PSA), a print ad or campaign, a speech, a political ad or speech, a TED talk, etc. An example of an artifact would be one of the commercials from the Super Bowl video I provided in a previous assignment.

Briefly describe/explain your artifact. What is it? What is it trying to achieve? Who is the audience?

Don't forget that Rhetoric is a situational art form. In order to really understand it you need to address the situational/historical context of the rhetorical act as well as any cultural context important to understanding the rhetorical acts function.

Explain how/if your artifact uses the six rhetorical purposes (refer to Kohrs Campbell reading pages 8-13) - creating virtual experience, altering perceptions, explaining, formulating belief, initiating action, and maintaining action. Incorporate Aristotle's Appeals into your analysis as applicable. Be thorough and descriptive.

Do you find if effective? Why/why not? Does it achieve its goal? Does it reach its intended audience? What appeals does it employ? Provide examples. Go beyond simply reporting what you see/hear/read and critique it.

A minimum of two sources are required. One may be the artifact itself. Please cite in APA format (see attached file for help)
