Objectives

On successful completion of this assignment, students should be able to:

  • describe a business model,

  • explain business model innovation,

  • identify the reasons a business model is important, and

  • define business core competency and describe its importance.

Brief Description

In unit 9 you will begin work on the presentation for your business plan. This is a critical step in securing funds from a bank or an investor. It can also be used to attract key employees.

Submission Instructions

There are two assignments due for this unit.

Assignment #1

  • You will prepare the key components of your marketing plan, a vital part of your final business plan. Using the SCORE Business Plan Template pages 11 through 18.

  • Prepare a document addressing market research, barriers to entry, threats and opportunities, product/service features and benefits, target customer, key competitors, positioning/niche, promotional budget, and pricing, you may include the worksheets found in the template.

Assignment #2

You will also submit your response for units 5 through 8 using the submissions for these chapters and the feedback given by the instructor. Prepare one document covering the content of chapter 5 – 8. Review the rubric below.

Assignment 2A: Legal and Organizational Structure

  • Weight ungraded but required

  • Due no later than 11:00 p.m. on Sunday of Unit 7

Objectives

On successful completion of this assignment, students should be able to:

  • prepare a financial plan with budget line items,

  • prepare pro forma financial statements,

  • identify alternative sources of financing for a new venture, and

  • compare the roles of banks, government and venture capital in financing.

Brief Description

In this unit you will understand the importance of a financial plan based on your best knowledge of how your enterprise will start and operate for its initial period. More importantly, this plan will help you determine how much money you will need to launch your business and operate it.

Submission Instructions

Submit a paper that addresses the following.

  1. identify the legal structure for your organization.

  1. Selecting the appropriate legal form of your business is an important first step. You should examine the legal obligations of your business and the need to meet laws and government regulations. These may encourage you to adopt a legal structure that reduces your liability exposure.

  2. Choose the organizational structure for your firm

  3. Identify which structure you will use (refer to the unit notes) functional, process, product, and consumers. Explain why you have made this choice and include an organizational chart identifying key employees and their responsibilities.

  4. What are the processes and technology that you will need to create your product or service?

  5. Now is a good time to think about the processes and technology that your enterprise will require, including the structure of your work. What are the job tasks that will need to be accomplished? The Marketing Plan is critical to your business idea as it will lead to success or failure of your venture. A great idea is meaningless if you cannot find customers. Carefully drafted and logical financial projections will not be met unless you have customers to buy your product/service.
